PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN BY WILLIAM HOLE, GUNMAKER 27 HIGH STREET, BRISTOL, NO. 3548, CIRCA 1840 with signed twist sighted barrels, engraved case-hardened breeches inlaid with a gold line, pierced platinum plugs, scroll-engraved tang, signed engraved locks decorated with scrollwork, border ornament and differing game vignettes (one hammer chipped), figured walnut half-stock fitted with two silver plaques beneath the breeches, chequered grip, engraved steel mounts (worn), and silver barrel bolt escutcheons (ramrod replaced) 77.2cm; 30 3/8in barrels William Hole is recorded at this address 1839-44.

Stan Mortensen's England international cap for the match v Sweden in 1948-49, the dark blue cap inscribed SWEDEN, 1948-49; sold together with a signed letter of provenance; the lot also including a copy of Mortensen's book Football Is My Game (2nd edition, 1949); a photograph of Mortensen scoring one of his hat-trick goals in the 1953 F.A. Cup final; a 1953 F.A. Cup final 50th anniversary tribute evening programme autographed by Bill Perry, Nat Lofthouse, Ewan Fenton, Roy Hartle, Cyril Robinson and Jimmy Armfield; and a 4-page signed hand written letter from Cyril Robinson recalling his memories of the 1953 Cup final. This match was played at the Rasunda Stadion, Solna, on 13th May 1949 and was the first of a three match end of season continental tour. Sweden recorded a memorable 3-1 victory. Blackpool's Stan Mortensen won a total of 25 England caps.

John Charles's red Wales No.9 shirt worn in the match versus Scotland at Hampden Park 4th November 1953, long-sleeved with white cuffs and button-up collar, with embroidered F.A.W. badge inscribed V SCOTLAND 1953-54. This home international doubled-up as a 1954 World Cup qualifying match and ended as an exciting 3-3 draw. John Charles scored two of the Welsh goals in this game, the over coming from Allchurch. John Charles gave this shirt to the vendor's father. They had a friendship through a mutual enthusiasm for greyhound racing.
Carlos Alberto: a signed yellow Brazil No.4 international jersey 1974, short-sleeved, signed in pen, now a little faded, the jersey also bearing another signature. This jersey was match-worn by Carlos Alberto in an international match in 1974, although the exact game remains unidentified. The jersey was obtained from a private collector in Brazil who knew a member of the Brazilian national team staff where the jersey was obtained. The same source obtained the Romario (see lot 415) and Edu (see lot 317) jerseys in this auction. Carlos Alberto Torres is best remembered as the captain of the magnificent 1970 World Cup winning side and for his unforgettable goal in the final.
A white West Germany No.14 international jersey worn by Heinz Steinmann in the match v England played in Nuremberg 12th May 1965, sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the England World Cup -winning player Ray Wilson and stating that the jersey was obtained as a swap after one of his three appearances for England v West Germany; the lot also including a match programme (3) Further to Ray Wilson's statement, further research has identified that the jersey was worn by Heinz Steinmann who replaced the injured Max Lorenz in the 1965 international in Nuremburg. England won the game 1-0.
Michael Ballack: a black Chelsea No.13 Champions League away jersey season 2006-07, short-sleeved, UEFA flash, the reverse lettered BALLACK. This jersey was worn by Ballack in the first knockout round of the Champions League during the away leg of the Porto fixture on 21st February 2007. The game ended as a 1-1 draw. It was gained as a swap by a Porto player after the match.
Peter Crouch: a match-worn white & green Liverpool No.15 away jersey season 2006-07, long-sleeved with F.A. Premier League flashes, the reverse lettered CROUCH. This jersey was gained as a swap by a Watford player after the Premier League game at Vicarage Road on 13th January 2007. Liverpool won the match 3-0 and Peter Crouch scored two of the goals. This jersey was gained as a swap by a Watford player after the Premier League game at Vicarage Road on 13th January 2007. Liverpool won the match 3-0. Alan Shearer's match-worn black & white striped Newcastle United jersey and captain's armband from the F.A. Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur played at Old Trafford 11th April 1999, short-sleeved, the reverse lettered SHEARER; sold together with a signed handwritten note of authenticity from Shearer reading 'This is the shirt that I wore in the F.A. Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on April 11th 1999, Best Wishes, Alan Shearer'; accompanied by four colour photographs of Shearer wearing this jersey during the match (6) Newcastle United won this game 2-0 with Alan Shearer scoring both goals during extra-time.
Zinedine Zidane: a blue France No.10 2006 World Cup jersey, short-sleeved with FIFA Germany 2006 flash, embroidered inscription FRANCE-SUISSE, 13.06.2006, the reverse lettered ZIDANE. This jersey was match-worn by Zinedine Zidane in the match against Switzerland in Stuttgart. The group stage game ended as a 0-0 draw with the referee keeping busier than the goalkeepers and issuing eight yellow cards, including one for Zidane. This jersey was originally obtained by a gentleman from one of the tournament's major sponsors, see also the final match ball (lot 419) and the Shevchenko jersey (lot 422) for further items personally acquired by this individual at the 2006 World Cup.
An official Everton FC itinerary for the 1906 F.A. Cup final issued to their player Harold Hardman, bearing ownership signature from Hardman; sold together with an 'in memorium' postcard titled IN TEARFUL MEMORY OF NEWCASTLE UNITED WHOSE HOPES OF WINNING THE FINAL TIE AT CRYSTAL PALACE WERE SHATTERED ON APRIL 21ST 1906'; and an original pen & ink and watercolour illustration of the Everton team who played in the 1907 F.A. Cup final (3) After his playing career Harold Hardman-who retained amateur status-went on to become a senior administrator in the game, and Chairman of Manchester United. He had also been a member of the gold-medal winning Great Britain football team at the 1908 Olympics.

READ ESQ.; sold with a Trent Bridge scorecard for Notts v Middlesex 14th to 16th August 1902 (3) The Oval banquet took place on the evening of the first day of the Surrey v Australia match. The game marked the first of Victor Trumper's eleven centuries in England in 1902.
Hilton (Harold) and Smith (Garden G.) The Royal & Ancient Game of Golf THIS COPY BEING NO.1 FROM THE SUBSCRIBER'S EDITION OF 900, full red leather, decorative gilt, 4to, London, 1912, binding loose at spine. This copy was owned by the vendor's father, George Marsden Esq., who was subscriber No.1 to Hilton and Garden Smith's book. His name appears in the printed list of subscribers.
A Jack Kramer personal tennis racquet, being a Wilson Jack Kramer Autograph Speed Flex Fibre Face model, the side of the handle applied with two metal plaques embossed BIG JAKE; sold with a b&w photograph of Jack Kramer holding this very racquet at Sheen LTC just over 50 years ago together with the current vendor, David Potter, then a Surrey County coach, to whom Kramer presented this racquet (2) Jack Albert Kramer was born in Las Vegas 1st August 1921. He was No.1 in the world for a number of years during the 1940s. He is many a commentator's choice as the greatest player of all time and took the serve-and-volley game to new heights and was a powerful advocate of 'percentage play.' Kramer won two US titles and was the champion at Wimbledon in 1947. He was also an important figure in the establishment of open tennis between amateurs and professionals. David Potter, who received this racquet from Kramer, was the national under-21 champion and enjoyed a career as a LTA professional and a B.T.C.A. national coach.
