An ash Croquet stand of 8 mallets and 8 balls, with two pins, the stand with carrying handles 97 x 62 x 23cm (38 x 24 x 9in) Other Notes: Records of ball and hoop games have existed since the middle ages. One game, known as 'Pall Mall', was played in London and it is from this that the well -known street is named. It involved hitting a single ball through very wide hoops. The modern game, however, is reputed to have derived from Ireland in the 1830s, before being taken to England during the 1850s. It was after this that standard rules were established and National competitions commenced.
