PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', sprung Jones patent rotary-underlever, bolstered treble-grip action with side-clips, bolted automatic safety, arrow cocking-indicators, profusely engraved with best bold stylised acanthus scrollwork, retaining much original colour-hardening and finish, 14 7/8in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, sling swivels, 7/8in. rubber recoil pad, engraved and colour-hardened pistolgrip-cap (case label informing that spare foresight will be found under cap), weight 11lb. 4oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case. The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed on November 20th 1908 for the Earl of Landisborough. The rifle also comes with a letter of provenance from the current owner stating that the rifle was obtained by his Uncle from the Blixen-Finecke family (he was a good friend of Gustaf Blixen-Finecke) and that the rifle had been used by Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke, Swedish born Baron, writer and Big Game Hunter, husband to Karen Blixen (pen name Isak Dineson). The rifle was the subject of an article in the Spring 1997 issue of The Double Gun Journal, pp126-135
