Stephen Samuel Lewin (1848-1909)oil on canvasThe Card Gamesigned and dated '93,24.75 x 19in.CONDITION: Oil on canvas cleaned and relined in the past ten years or so, canvas remains tight, a fine but stable craquelure shows through much of the paint particularly through the centre and right side of the work, there may well be some retouching running particularly down the left and across the bottom, signed and dated lower left, housed in an ornate, probably original, gilt gesso frame which suffers from overpainting and a few losses, no labels verso.

1993 Cosenza v West Ham Football Poster: The vendor obtained this poster in person on the day of the Anglo Italian Cup match from the town square in Cosenza. No programme was produced for this game and with only a handful of West Ham fans in attendance due to West Ham being out of the tournament and the club cancelling travel arrangements. Collectors will find it hard to have something from this game. Very large poster is colourful and would look great framed.
1908 FA Cup Final Framed Serviette: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United. Printed after the match as it states How The Wolves Won with date of game and result. Original 112 year old serviette is decorative and features drawings of match action and looks in good condition. Measures 15 x 15 inches.

Stent, title with typographic border, woodcut illustration of a chess board, woodcut head-pieces and decorative initials, errata to verso of final f., a1&2 bound after title, lacking initial blank, portrait frayed at foot affecting caption, trimmed to within border and laid down, title closely trimmed, partly affecting printed border, a1 short tear to inner gutter affecting 2 or 3 letters, trimmed at head, occasionally affecting headlines, occasional light staining, 19th century green mottled calf, gilt, spine rubbed, [LN 395; Whyld & Ravilious 1656:2; Wing G1810], small 8vo, Printed for Henry Herringman, and are to be sold at his shop at the sign of the Anchor, in the lower walk of the New Exchange, 1656.⁂ The first work on chess in English to note that the rook was sometimes depicted as a castle. This is a translation of Gioachino's Trattato del nobilissimo giuoco degli scacchi. Greco was a native of Calabria, the same province of Naples that had produced the chess masters Giovanni Leonard and Michele di Mauro.
