VINTAGE 'RANGERS V MORTON' FOOTBALL MATCHDAY PROGRAMMEfrom the Scottish Cup Final Replay on 21st April 1948The match was won 1-0 by Rangers after a 1-1 draw in the match four days earlier.Note: According to scottishleague.net - "The only Scottish Cup Final replays which had programmes issued were those of 1948 (Rangers v Morton) and 1963 (Rangers v Celtic)."The SFA's thinking was that a programme covered both the Final and any replay. There doesn't appear to be any particular reason why programmes were issued for the 1948 and 1963 replays and not for other post-war Finals which went to a second game like those in 1953, 1955, 1957, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1979 and 1981."Our own speculations here are that 1948 was the first post-war replay and that the SFA policy may have been instituted after that. In 1963 there was an unusally long gap (eleven days, rather than the customary four) between first and second games."
‘Glove Box’ - 1931 by Barringer, Wallace & Manners published by Huntley & Palmers, rectangular tin decorated in red and green and brown imitating inlaid wood, with ball-bearing feet, and Huntley & Palmers stamp on gold base, in the style of an elaborately inlaid Islamic wooden box or, as the Christmas catalogue of 1931 describes it 'a most artistic and useful tin of Moorish design'. The geometrical patterning recalls the design of the 'Syrian' tin of 1903 ;‘Wood & Ivory Box’ - 1931 by Huntley, Boorne & Stevens by Huntley & Palmers Tin in the form of an oriental wooden chest with a Hindu god on the hinged lid and imitation ivory bands, cardboard container in which this box was originally sold calls it simply 'Ivory Box', the catalogues, on the other hand, refer to it as 'Wood and Ivory Box' it is also suggested that it 'can be used for cigarettes'. Another tin, also called 'Wood and Ivory Box, was made around the same time, only in its case the decorations are Islamic rather than, as here, Hindu; ‘Olden Times’ - 1893 by Huntley, Boorne & Stevens published by Huntley & Palmers, an elaborately shaped tin, decorated with historical scenes on hinged lid, including an Elizabethan game of bowls and a court jester, the ornate shape of this tin was clearly popular as it was used for four tin designs in 1893 and 1894; ‘Ancient Lock - 1896 by Huntley, Boorne & Stevens published by Huntley & Palmer, rectangular tin with slightly embossed lock, handle and metal framework on simulated timber background, simulated wood-effect on this tin was popular in domestic interiors during this period, many wooden door and panels, for example, were painted in brown and painstakingly feathered with lighter paints to recreate the wood grain, (4)
