A George Jones Majolica Game Pie Dish and Cover, Circa 1873, of oval form moulded with a frieze of rabbits seated among grasses and ferns, the handles modelled as entwined branches, the cover with a gamebird finial and its brood nestled amongst ferns and grasses on a turquoise ground, 14ins x 8.5ins x 8.75ins high, with diamond registration mark and indistinct painted shape number to base Provenance: Sotheby's London, Auction 25th November 1997 - Lot 307. For a similar example see Marilyn G. Karmason & Joan B. Stake - "Majolica", 1989 - Front Cover.Condition ReportThis was purchased from the Sotheby's auction and described "lid restored". To the underside of the cover the restored hairline cracks are evident and along one line there is a very small flake chip to the body. Along another line near the edge there is a larger flake chip to the body measuring approximately 13mm long. Along the vertical outer edge of the cover near this flake chip there is an associated flake chip which measures approximately 10mm x 5mm. On the opposing side there is another flake chip to the edge which measures approximately 16mm x 8mm. There is a small flat chip to the underside of the beak of the woodcock. One chick has a flake chip to its beak. Another chick is lacking its beak. Five miniscule chips to the inner rim. At one end to the underside of the cover, a small 'percussion' crack shows as a half round crack with some miniscule loss to the body, crack measures approximately 10cm Tureen - Minor scattered surface flake chips to some enamels. Upper part of inner rim with five flat chips. One handle with hairline crack to upper section through both branches, with an associated hairline crack through one branch just above this close to the rim. Minor burst air bubbles to underside. Diamond registration mark possibly for 17th December 1873. It is sold as an unfinished project with works undertaken so far including totally rebuilt engine, chassis shot blasted and painted, new ash wood frame, crankshaft, conrods, pistons, valves, kingpins and bushes, In addition, the brakes have been completely overhauled and the starter and dynamo reconditioned. The vendor advises that it has previously been running. The car is no longer recording on DVLA's system and re-registration will be required. Comes with some some restoration images and Austin 7 articles. One copy sheet states the car number as B4 2353 which was manufactured between July 1931 and January 1932 but this has not been verified.
