A good quality double barrelled 30 bore flintlock sporting gun, by W Mills, London, c 1820, 45” overall, rebrowned twist barrels 29½” with 2 gold lines and gold maker’s poincons at breech, top rib engraved “Gun-Maker-to-his-Royal-Highness-the-Prince-of-Wales”; signed stepped locks finely engraved with fern tip borders, scrolls and flower heads, and having rainproof pans and rollers on frizzen springs; figured ash (?) halfstock having chequered wrist, silver barrel wedge plates and blued steel mounts including large trigger guard engraved with game birds in foliage and with pineapple finial, and foliate engraved butt plate tang; horn tipped ramrod having brass mounted concealed worm. Near VGWO & C, the locks crisp and retaining some colour hardened finish (small crack in the stock below one lock).

An SB 18 bore flintlock sporting gun c 1800, 50½” overall, half octagonal barrel 35” with gold lines at breech and gold touch hole (all possibly replaced); the flat stepped lock having French style cock, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring, plate with oval gold escutcheon engraved (probably at a later date) “EGG” in copper plate script; walnut halfstock with chequered wrist; steel mounts including scrolled trigger guard engraved with game bird and with pineapple finial. GWO & generally GC (slightly worn overall, barrel heavily refinished, fore end cap and piece of fore end missing, with a crude steel ramrod.)

Ancell, George Street, Perth”; breech tang engraved with scrolls and vignette of a partridge in undergrowth; signed back action locks finely engraved with beaded borders and scenes of pheasants and lapwings in a heathland setting, unusual long nosed hammers of serpentine form; dark walnut halfstock having chequered wrist (worn) and steel mounts, trigger guard and finial engraved with capercaillie and other game birds, the butt plate tang with a heron in reeds; brass mounted ramrod having concealed worm. GWO&C (old repair to fractured fore end, light wear to stock and mounts)
