Lot 3557

CHESTER POLLARD COIN-OPERATED ""PLAY FOOTBALL"" GAME. A great coin-op piece often found in arcades from the 1920s-40s. Charging only a nickel, two people would control their respective teams and play a simulated game of soccer/football. Lifelike actions with kicking and moving figures as well as the frustration your opponent would feel when you scored against them. These American made machines were quite popular arcade and amusement park attractions and were heavily used. They yielded the operator a significant return on investment, which at a cost of $550 in 1926 was quite a hefty sum. As in this case, oftentimes the oak cabinetry was repainted to freshen it up for the following seasons. Machine appears to be a good solid example, but in need of some mechanical as well as cosmetic attention if one were inclined to do so. SIZE: 73"" h x 28"" d x 46"" w. CONDITION: Coin entry area appears complete, but in need of a cover plate so as not to expose the interior mechanism. Retains original marquee with paper insert. Players would benefit from a freshening of uniforms. 1-13931
