SALEROOM ANNOUNCEMENT - Estimates have changed to £2000-£2500Big Ted - a rare large 1920s Bing Teddy Bear who belonged to three generations of Master Mariners with full provenance, with frosted brown mohair, clear and black glass eyes with brown backs, pronounced clipped muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs with felt pads, hump and inoperative growler —28in. (71cm.) high (neat small patch and slight holes to top of muzzle, pads with backed holes, faded to grey, some general wear and thinning) - this bear belonged to three generations of Master Mariners, purchased by Captain R Pritchard when he coasted the Blue Funnel ships Elpenor and Agapenor to Germany in 1927, and brought him back for his son Idwal Pritchard, who later also became a Master Mariner. He was then passed onto his younger brother, Richard Glynne Pritchard born in 1939, sold with an album of history and three copies of photographs, one of a cousin of Evan’s, May holding the bear circa 1930, another of Gylnne wheeling Ted in a wheelbarrow circa 1947 and a photograph of Glynne and Idwal at a ship’s controls; the photographs are available as jpegs from the department

Victorian mahogany rolltop desk, fitted interior above a cupboard, plinth base, brass mounts, width 109cm, depth 50cm, height 93cm.Condition report:All over patches of lost veneer, bruises, surface scratches, and splitting of existing veneer. The lower right corner of the roll-top, and adjacent corner area of the body when the top is closed has substantial loss and old repairs. The interior central writing pad has been replaced with a white plastic patch, and the two leather sections either side are beginning to lift and peel. The interior is very shallow. Venee losses to the trinket drawers. Lock plates stripped out throughout. The cupboard interior is very tired. The sides are ok, general wear, no splits. Lacking any feet.

George III mahogany side table, the top with moulded edge, five drawers, width 100cm, depth 46cm, height 79cm, and a Victorian mahogany dressing table mirror with rectangular glass.Qty: 2Condition report:Side table: the top appears to be a marriage to the base. The top has a large historic split which has been repaired/ stabilised extending from the right hand side, towards the front. The split travels half way across the width. There is a resulting loss of moulding where the split starts to the right hand side. The top has various other historic scars, scratches, and marks. There is also a repaired triangular patch to the back right corner. The base section is sound but is later. The arched panel below the central drawer is poorly matched. Handles replaced. Some scuffs and marks to the supports but generally sound. No evidence of worm.

A BILSTON ENAMEL PATCH BOX, CIRCA 1790 of oval form, the hinged cover printed and hand-coloured with 'A Trifle from London / Carlton House', the Royal residence with figures in the foreground, opening to reveal a mirror, the base blue. 5.4cm wideCarlton House was The Prince of Wales' ever-evolving London residence on Pall Mall between 1783 and 1826. It was demolished the next year and replaced with Carlton House Terrace, which stands today.

Italy.- Guicciardini (Francesco) The Historie of Guicciardin: Containing the Warres of Italie and other Partes, translated by Geffray Fenton, second edition in English, woodcut device on title, woodcut initials and headpieces, lacking initial and final blanks, L3 lower corner restored, just touching text, worming to lower margin, the odd patch of marginal staining or soiling, occasional light browning, title with light browning and staining and a few ink inscriptions, bookplate to pastedown, contemporary calf, rebacked, retaining original backstrip, spine labels renewed, [Pforzheimer 442; STC 12459], folio, by Richard Field, 1599.⁂ One of the most detailed of the 16th century Italian histories. Provenance: John Holgate, 1668 (ink inscription); Leo. S. Olschki, Firenze (bookplate).

Metallurgy.- Webster (John) Metallographia: or, An History of Metals, first edition, with final advertisement f., bookplate of Herbert McLean Evans, title with small ink inscription to foot, 3B4 with very small hole in text, light browning and some scattered spotting, the odd patch of light soiling, later calf, spine gilt, rubbed at extremities, a couple small chips to spine ends, [Cole 1353; Wing W1231A], small 4to, by A. C. for Walter Kettilby at the Bishops-head in St. Pauls Church-yard, 1671.⁂ 'Webster's book is one of the earliest and most elaborate works on metallurgy and minerals written in English' (Cole). This one of two issues with variant imprint, the other with Kettilby's address given as "in Duck-lane".
