A Derby porcelain shell sweetmeat stand, c.1760-65, unmarked, with three patch marks to underside, modelled as seven scallop shells in three tiers, on a naturalistic shell and seaweed base, the interior of each shell with butterflies and insects, 18cm highCondition Report: Some condition issues. Chips to the rim of the shells, including a larger loss to the rim of one shell. Several small losses and chips to the brocade. Crazing to the shells. General surface dirt to the whole, some rubbed paint to the rims of the shells.

Left column is not sitting straight and has split and minor chips to base. Both columns with minor knocks and scratches and minor tarnishing to caps. Right side of hood has restored vertical splits, the left side with general scratching and restored patch to moulding. Chips and splits to seat board and some nails to case under seat board. Door with splits to veneer and with wooden block glued to frame behind door on lower left and splits to top right. The dental frieze underneath the hood with one missing tooth to the left side and one missing to right side. Trunk with minor discolouration to both sides, splits and warping to right side and minor chips to edges, lifting and minor chip to veneer above door. Door does not sit fully flush and with split to the right of the lower hinge. Plinth base with knocks to moulding, splits and warping to front and minor discolouration to sides. Left moulding has been re-glued as has one of the feet. The other feet with some wear. Backboard to case with holes, large cracks repaired with strip of cloth, and with replaced board to top and bottom sections. Dial: Craquelure and minor losses to paint. Chips to paint to dial edges. Minor rubbing to numerals. Some surface scratching. Tarnishing and bending to hands.Movement: Some scratches to backplate. Pendulum guide slightly bent. Tarnishing and bending to pendulum. A German stirrup cup in the form of a Long-eared owl, stamped 800, post 1886, with unidentified maker's mark, the cup realistically chased with feathers, approx. 7cm high, approx. weight 3.2oz Condition Report: Please refer to department for condition reportThe cup is in good overall condition. However, the eyes (probably originally glass or gemstones) are now deficient. Some general surface scratching and nicking noted. Outline of cup is slightly out of round. Douglas Wilson, Racehorses, a hand-operated automaton, wire, glass, approx. 28cm high, 24cm wide, 19cm deep; and three other hand-operated wire automata by the same artist; together with Dominic Smith, Sardines, a hand-operated automaton, approx. 11.7cm high, 18cm wide, 17cm deep; another by Dominic Smith, Pilchards, 1998, brass, paper, approx. 15.7cm high; and three other hand-operated automata (9)Sir Nicholas Goodison noted:Racehorses: The bent and twisted wire construction gives the three horses a movement that suggests surging forward in their race. The crank shaft that drives the front and back legs is fashioned so that they are cantering out of phase with each other. The spring wire that represents manes and tails is left unfixed at the tails so that they swish as tails do. The overall effect is verging on the sculptural.Sardines: The sardine tin is partially opened. When the handle is wound the sardines flap their articulated bodies and tails, a little disconcerting for the diner. Dominic Smith studied ceramics at Bath University (and was doing so when he made these two pieces). Before this he worked at Cabaret Mechanical Theatre in Covent Garden where he caught the automata bug.Pilchards: Whoever has opened the tin of Pilchards, Doms Ocean Choice gets a surprise when they jump around in the tin, clearly as fresh as you can obtain. A George II silver coffee pot, London, 1757, probably Thomas Whipham & Charles Wright, of elongated baluster form with hinged cover and foliate tipped spout, approx. 25cm high, approx. weight 25.5ozProvenance: Works of Art from the Schroder Collection.Condition Report: Approx. 7.25 inches from top of spout to top of handle. The coffee pot is in good condition commensurate with age. Some general surface scratching, nicking and minor pitting noted. Hallmarks rubbed (but date letter visible). Small patch beneath handle. Handle probably later. Some splits and discoloration noted to handle and upper pin pushed through slightly. Ding to foot (out of round). Small repair to hinge area. Cover sits very slightly raised. Some light wear to finial. Some light tarnish in places. Overall a nice piece.

The saucer with three small flat chip to the underside of the rim (not visible when viewed face on), crescent-shaped 0.8 cm., 0.5 cm. and 0.3 cm. wide. Tiny flat glaze chip to the side of the footrim. Some wear to the broad gilt band around the rim of the saucer and some wear and minor scratching to the enamels in the centre, particularly to the shoulder of the standing figure. The teabowl in good order with just a little wear to the gilt upper rim and a small patch of wear to the gilt band around the footrim.

One saucer with very, very slight wear to the gilding at 12 o'clock on the cartouche, the other saucer with a small patch of wear to the enamel of the scene at the edge of the cartouche at 7 o'clock. One cup with 0.2 cm oval flake to turquoise ground colour on lower body of cup. The other cup with a similar flake to the ground colour at the mid-point of the body near the edge of the cartouche and with some slight flaking to the gilding around the upper rim.

Some surface scratching, nicking and minor pitting noted and some minor dings and bruising to body. Stands steadily on foot. Decoration likely later added. Lid stamped with IK and lion passant. Hallmarks to underside clear. Some splitting and evidence of repairs at hinge join. Small patch to neck near hinge. Some small splits and nicks to handle and some patches of discoloration. Probable small repair to one side of upper handle join. No splits or repairs solder noted to main body. Decoration generally good, some wear to high points in places. Finial sits slightly askew. Overall an attractive coffee pot in good condition commensurate with age.

Indian black lacquered hide shield/dhal, of circular convex form with strongly outward-turned brim, fitted at its centre with four metal bosses, each of hemispherical form, with traces of silvered foliate decoration, the bosses corresponding on the inside with four iron rings for enarmes D49cmCondition Report:Two further small holes above the four bosses presumably for other smaller bosses.Sizeable patch of loss of lacquer to the outside and smaller patches on the inside.Otherwise reasonably good condition consistent with age and use.
A GROUP OF CHINESE SILK EMBROIDERED PANELS, LATE QING/EARLY 20TH CENTURY. Comprising: two dark blue silk tapering rectangular panels embroidered with phoenix and dragons amongst clouds in gold and silver thread, a rectangular red ground panel embroidered with flowers and symbols, another red ground example with flowers, two long rectangular ivory ground panels embroidered with butterflies, a tiger, horse and birds amongst trees and flowers. The ivory examples 102cm long (the longest) (6)All are cut down fragments from larger textiles. The pair of blue silk examples with some fraying to the edge of the blue silk, there is some slight discolouration to the silk and minor tarnishing and some small loose threads to the gilt and silver thread. The embroidery is very fine. The first of the red ground panels is faded to red ground and worn overall, the second red ground example is brighter in colour, it has some wear, minor staining and small holes to red ground and to blue backing, small areas appear unfinished. One of the ivory panels has a small patch of staining, some minor discolouration and fraying at edges overall.
A RARE CHINESE YAOZHOU / HENAN RUSSET SPLASHED BOWL, SONG DYNASTY (960-1279). A fine example with slightly rounded conical body on a short foot with everted rim decorated to the interior with russet and black glaze thinning at the rim. The exterior almost completely covered in a persimmon coloured glaze with neat circular patch over the 'chicken heart' base, leaving the foot unglazed. Probably of the period (960-1279). 12.7cm diam.Ref: For a similar example described as Song-Jin dynasty, see Christie's 1 June 2016, Lot 3124 - Classic Chinese Art from the Sui to the Song Dynasties. One slight shallow chip to underside of rim. Otherwise in good overall condition with no further signs of damage or repair.
TWO CHINESE PORCELAIN FAMILLE ROSE CIRCULAR DISHES, 20TH CENTURY. Each with iron-red enamel and gilt four character apocryphal Qianlong seal marks, the first decorated with a courtesan reclining on a daybed in a draped interior, within puce lozenge pattern and precious object border, the underside with coral red ground, the second decorated with a court lady wearing flowing robes, holding a tea tray and standing atop clouds, reserved against a turquoise ground, 24cm diam. max. (2)ProvenanceProperty of an English Gentleman, acquired in Taiwan in the 1970s.The example with turquoise ground with a small patch of flaking and deterioration to glaze beside rim, minor discolouration to turquoise ground. Minute wear to enamels to both, overall in good order.

Nevertheless the inscription indicates that this copy was likely intended for a fellow writer.

Haynes, Royal Armoured Corps, a prisoner of war in Stalag IVB 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45, all unnamed as issued, good very fine (3) £100-£140 --- Robert Henry Haynes was born at Southampton on 15 April 1918, and enlisted there on 18 May 1917 for 6 years with the colours and 6 years in the Reserve. He enlisted originally into the 10th Royal Hussars and later served with the 8th Royal Irish Hussars and Royal Armoured Corps. He is confirmed as a prisoner of war in Germany, presumably captured in North Africa. Sold with soldier’s service and pay book (5498204 Sgt. R. H. Haynes, R.A.C.), Soldier’s Release Book Class “A” and various related documents, sergeant’s cloth rank insignia (2) both with Desert Rats embroidered patch, two fibre identity discs (5498204 HAYNES), P.O.W. metal identity disc (Stalag IVB 229283), pair of metal shoulder scales, pair of ‘8.H’ cloth shoulder titles, and 5 cap badges for R.A.C. (plastic and metal), 8th Hussars (2) and 10th Hussars, and a prayer book ‘The gift of S.P.C.K. For use of Prisoners of War’.

After Mary Gaskell Gillick OBE (née Tutin; 1881-1965), "Eve", a patinated sculpture modelled as a seated baby clasping foliage, dated 1934, signed in the cast "M. Gillick MCMXXXIV", probably cast lead, 47cm highNOTE: A lead "Eve" by Gillick (a companion piece to the previous year's "Adam") was displayed at the Royal Academy in 1934, where it was purchased by Charles Boot. A painted plaster version of this piece was presented to Leeds Art Gallery by the family of Mary Gillick in 2017. CONDITION REPORT:The piece shows surface wear, scrapes and scuffs to the patinated finish, the odd patch of residue, and the odd small casting fault.

JOSEFA TEXIDOR TORRES, known as PEPITA TEXIDOR (Barcelona, 1865- 1914)"Roses and carnations", 1896 .Pair of oils on canvas.Signed and dated one of them.Patch on one of the canvases. Slight lack of polychromy in the frames. Measurements: 74 x 39 cm; 91 x 55 cm (frame).Pepita Texidor was a Spanish watercolourist and painter, who also cultivated techniques such as gouache and oil. Her two brothers, Modest and Josep, also painted and were her first teachers, together with her father José Texidor and the painter Francesc Miralles. Her usual clientele was the Barcelona bourgeoisie of the time, but her fame and prestige transcended the limits of Barcelona, and even Queen Maria Cristina bought works by her. In addition to painting, Pepita Texidor also cultivated music and singing. She formed part of the group of women who fought to be able to exhibit their work in the galleries that usually only exhibited male artists. In this group we find other outstanding women painters of the time such as Lluïsa Vidal, Visitación Ubach, Antònia Ferreras Bertran and Maria Lluïsa Güell.

There are two patch repairs as seen verso and some overpainting visible above the jesters head. Various marks and losses to the frame but not too serious.
