Lot 548

A fine late 18th century closed oak dresser, with three open plate racks above four drawers with brass drop handles, the base with four drawers and brass drop handles, flanked by two cupboards, raised on ogee bracket feet, L185cm x D52cm x H207.5cm Condition Report: Overall in good decorative order and appears sturdy. There are signs of old woodworm, mainy with holes to back boards of shelving, the rear of cupboards and sides. Some typical and relatively minor splitting to back, short area of moulding lacking to front mid-section drawers at left side, some deterioation and losses to support under shelves to left side (due to worm), ogee foot is lacking to rear left, only block foot remains. Small tin or similar metal repair patch to back boards behind lower cupboards, The base interior of the lower left cupboard has split and warped and there is a long loose traingular repair which has broken. The interior of both cupboards has some splitting and signs of old worm holes. No shelf is present in the left hand cupboard although there is one later bracket support suggesting that this cupboard may have housed a shelf. The handles and knobs are in-keeping in terms of date but they have been remounted at a later date and old holes filled. There is one brass escutheon lacking to right side. Small split to frieze above central drawer to cupboard, some old losses to top edge of this top drawer. Small old loss to edge of moulded top above cupboards.

Some typical tarnishing to mount, slight wear to gilt interior, with a patch of yellowing across front of her dress and small areas to the fruit in her hair.

A World War II era oak cased RAF fusee mantel clock, of arched rectangular form, the silvered dial with crowned RAF emblem and Roman numerals in black, the movement stamped Made by FW Elliott Ltd, England/1941, with pendulum and key, 41 cm high Condition Report: Movement numbered 14630 and 1941 'Made by F. W. Elliott Ltd'. Original coil appears to be present however movement is not functioning, probably overwound as key does not turn. Pendulum present but unattached. The case is cracked and filled to lower front, with wooden repaired reinforced patch to the interior. Minor wear to dial. There are some filled holes to the side of the case near rear door, the door and hinges may be later replacements. Some surface deterioation to brass mount to dial.

There are four hairline cracks running down from the rim of the mug and there are nine also chips and grazes to the rim of the mug. General light wear to the underside. Despite faults, overall ok.
