Lot 47

Lot 755

J.F. Herring, oil on canvas, race horses. 32 cm x 42 cm, framed, signed. CONDITION REPORT: Comparing signatures with others available online we have no reason to believe that this is not correct. We believe parts of the picture to be well executed whilst other parts average. It has been relined and cleaned at some point although now the canvas surface is rather grubby. The oil painting has a lot of crazing throughout though most notable within the clouds. There is a small patch of oil painting missing at the very bottom right hand corner. We believe this to be an original 19th century oil painting on canvas.

Lot 851

The second patch is approx 14 ins to the left of the front of the horse above the central rock. The overpainting here is again a slightly different colour to the rest of the sea. There is no significant craquelure. The painting has an original gilt slip which is tatty. There is no outer frame.

Lot 1338

A George III mahogany chest of drawers, with moulded edge, canted angles with blind fretwork, two short and three long graduated drawers and raised ogee moulded bracket feet. Width 117 cm. The top right hand drawer escutcheon has been repaired and has a patch replaced repair and infills above the top right hand and left hand drawers (above the lock) and similar to the centre long drawer, there are some old repairs to the front end.

Lot 1165

A 19th century Scottish mahogany longcase clock, with two-train striking movement by Duff, Paisley, with pendulum and weights. Height 215 cm (see illustration). The dial is a consistent gilt colour throughout although on the date dial there is a small patch missing between 16 and 18. The hour hand is hanging loose. The seat board maybe later. The movement appears to be complete and intact although not in working order and will require a clean. Weight and suspension are both detached from the pendulum.
