An Ercol elm nest of tables, 57 cm x 35.5 cm x 42 cm high (largest), 34 cm x 25.5 cm x 36.5 cm high (smallest), an Ercol elm single drawer side table, 47.5 cm x 44.5 cm x 54 cm high and a matching occasional table, 46 cm x 36.5 cm x 38.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Nest of tables has some knocks and bumps, etc. to the tops and sides, there is some more damage to the insides of each of the table legs where they have gone in and out of the nest both at the top and on the feet. Single drawer side table has some knocks, bruises througout including one on the left-hand side which is a bit deeper and the single table as a patch of roughness/loss to the varnish. Otherwise all have general wear and tear to include knocks, bumps, etc. conducive with age and use. See images for more details.
* Miniature. A tiny Victorian love token basket, finely carved ebony, patterned with scrolling ribbon and tendril borders, base inlaid with 5 white metal panels, comprising a central square panel engraved with a swallow with letter in its beak, and 4 lunette-shaped panels, 2 engraved with a flower between leaf sprays, the other 2 blank, handle of basket with inlaid white metal oval engraved with monogram 'HC' between carved leaf sprays, 2 x 3cm (.75 x 1ins), together with a small collection of other miscellaneous and miniature items, including: a 19th century ivory pipe tamper; a carved ivory head of a Renaissance-style man, 23 x 23mm; a 19th century pierced bone propelling pencil/dip pen; a miniature plaster head and shoulders portrait of an infant, in circular glazed frame; and a number of small patch boxes and trinkets, of turned wood, ivory, etc.Qty: (17)NOTESProvenance: Collection of Jack Webb (1923-2019), London.

An art deco Swiss silver and enamel box by F.B.E., Geneve, of circular form with enamel cover decorated with a boat on a lake, the base with a guilloche enamel, the interior gilded and stamped 935, damaged, 5cm diameter, 50g, together with a large collection of boxes including Victorian horn and papier mache snuff boxes, a 19th century French gilt-metal snuff box inset with lapis lazuli panels, 6cm long, an 18th century style pressed brass casket, the lid inset with a watercolour miniature of a young lady, 8.5cm long, an 18th century Bilston enamel patch box, the lid inscribed 'Accept a trifle from a friend', damaged, 4cm long, porcelain table boxes and other itemsQty: (48)NOTESProvenance: John Wait (1927-2014), Chairman of Lipton Tea.
* Clothing. A European doublet, probably 1580-1600 [and later], gentleman's doublet of gold silk velvet, faded from red (with small patch of original colour remaining on right shoulder), with stand-up collar fastened with hammered brass hook and eye, front opening with 17 (of 18) Turk's head buttons, and corresponding buttonholes, 4cm (1.5ins) deep shoulder wings giving way to curving sleeves of gold silk brocade (later - 1720s?), cuffs each with 7 buttons and buttonholes as before, high pointed waist, and 16 shallow laps lined with gold silk, latter each with 2 eyelets threaded with gold satin ribbon tied in a bow (later?), each end terminating in a patterned cast silver-gilt pointed finial (gilding rubbed in places, one finial near-detached), metal braid edging (detached in places), sleeve fabric perishing, with tears and losses, sleeves faded on front side, lined with coarse unbleached linen, and with padded linen-covered belly pieces, that to left side left loose creating a 'pocket' giving access to buttonholes (lined on inside with gold silk), chest 91.5cm (36ins), waist 86cm (34ins), sleeves 56cm (22ins), length 50cm (19.75ins)Qty: (1)NOTESIt is rare for such garments to come onto the market. This doublet is typical of the Elizabethan period, with its snug fit and belly padding giving the fashionable 'pigeon pouter' silhouette, and with its decorative shoulder wings, high pointed waist, and overlapping waist tabs with ties. Similar garments can be seen in the V&A, The Met, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (accession numbers 184-1900, 1978.128, 44.287a-b respectively).
* Clothing. A 1950s Beverley dress, printed cotton summer dress with full gathered skirt, with all over pictorial pattern depicting chic ladies carrying hat boxes, shop fronts with awnings (a hat boutique and a florist), pairs of gloves, and bouquets of flowers, in red, turquoise, grey, black, and yellow, on a pale lime green ground, square neck with printed label at nape "A Beverley Dress", sleeveless but with wide over-the-shoulder straps culminating in a point and secured by a large black button, front opening with three further matching black buttons, side zip, bust 101.5cm (40ins), waist 76cm (30ins), length 108cm (42.5ins), together with a pair of 1950s hand-made cotton curtains, with squared pictorial pattern printed in red, grey, black, green, and turquoise, on a white ground, depicting a wide range of domestic objects, including a grater, oil lamp, coffee pot, stringed instrument, weighing scales, globe, kettle, songbird and cage, etc., gathered with rufflette tape to top edge, 8" tear to lower right corner of one curtain (held together with iron-on patch on reverse), drop 109cm (43ins), width 171.5cm (67.5ins)Qty: (3)NOTESA striking dress, so indicative of the 1950s, in excellent condition.

A mid 18th Century Chinese famille rose part tea set, comprising a bullet-shaped teapot and cover, three cups and a saucer, and a Chinese moustache cup, circa 1900/see illustration CONDITION REPORT: There is a small chip to the glaze under the spout of the jug. The finial of the teapot cover has flaked glaze to the tip and a patch to the side as well. There is a firing flaw to the inside of one cup. Otherwise some wear to gilding but overall good.
A Worcester wine funnel, circa 1754, painted in bright famille rose enamels with blue and orange rocks from which grows flowering peony branches and bamboo, 11cm high/Provenance: The Cohen Collection, exhibited Albert Amor Ltd. June 1992 Exhibited: 'Worcester Porcelain 1751-1900': A loan exhibition from Dyson Perrins Museum, Worcester and Private Collections. Dreweatt Neate , 1995 No 4; 'Worcester Porcelain 1751-2001', Albert Amor Ltd 2001/Note: the last polychrome funnel sold at auction was Christie's, 16 December 2010, lot 193, from The Barratt Collection, Crowe Hall, Bath CONDITION REPORT: This is an excellent example. Base rim of the funnel in perfect condition, the upper rim with several minute chips although all appear to be underglaze. Very small firing crack to the body close to the upper rim and only visible to the interior. Enamels bright and in excellent condition. Small glaze fault to the exterior close to the smaller flower clump. Small patch of scratched glaze over the end of one of the long branches also on the exterior.
A Worcester blue scale ground milk jug and cover, circa 1770, painted flower garlands in gilt frame cartouches, 10.5cm high/Provenance: From the collection of Sir Roy Strong and his late wife Dr Julia Trevelyan Oman, Lady Strong CBE/see illustration CONDITION REPORT: A few tiny chips the petals of flower finial on cover, and a small chip to the underside of the rim and to the flange. The body of the jug kin good condition; no chips cracks or restoration. Minor rubbing to gilt line rim and a small scuffed patch on glaze to the side of the cartouche below spout. Enamels and gilding good.
A Ridgeway plate, circa 1850, painted a black grouse within a heather border, 23cm diameter CONDITION REPORT: In good condition - no chips, cracks or restoration. There is some fine glaze crazing over the plate and a small area at 10/11 o'clock on the rim of the well at the front, has a little staining to the crazing. Minor wear to gilding but a rubbed patch to rim at 5 o'clock.
A pair of Chamberlains Worcester dessert tureens and covers, 20.5cm high CONDITION REPORT: One cover with hairline crack from aperture, the other cover with a Y shaped crack bonded and old rivet holes filled. One tureen base with two flat rim chips, one handle with a hairline crack. A few very small chips to square base. Light surface scratches and marks throughout commensurate with age and use
James Hardy Jr. (1801-1889) The Anglers Signed, pencil and watercolour heightened with white, together with a further companion example by the same hand depicting a horse, cart and figures, 17.5cm by 27.5cm (2) See illustration each in broadly good clean and bright state of preservation. example featuring the anglers has a small slightly discoloured patch immediately above the central standing firgures head approx 1cm from top edge and a further slightly discoloured patch to upper right hand corner approx 1cm from upper edge. these may have been retouched (?) light surface dirt. there is a cluster of marks or scratches or paper being revealed underneath in and around standing figure to background an to the sky which may or may not be original to the execution of the picture. small cluster of nics or indentations to surface of upper left hand corner some light surface dirt. example with horse cart subtle cockelling to sheet colours good and bright. not examined out of frame
Robert Cleminson (fl.1864-1903) Spaniels with the day's bag Signed, oil on canvas, together with a companion, 39.5cm by 60cm (2) . Example with the sportsman's basket - In an overall good and original state of preservation. The canvas is somewhat loose on the stretcher and is very slightly buckled in places. Horizontal rub mark along top edge from slip. Small vertical canvas tear/losses within the left wing of game bird next to dog's head which is approx 0.5mm in length and less than 0.5mm across. Some very minor rubbing to other edges. Small patch of flaked paint within the rocks on the right hand side edge in line with the hind legs of the standing dog. There is a further very small area of flaked paint within the area between the recumbent dog and the standing dog. Very small loss/losses within the undergrowth approx 10cm directly above the signature. Light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Second example - The canvas is in a similar state of slightly loose repair (does not have the tare/loss). Some general light rubbing/abrasions to outer edges. There are a relatively few small amount of small/tiny essentially individual losses/flaked paint including just above the mountains on the right hand side, the vegetation within the far foreground and the area between the recumbent dog and the Rabbits. There are a handful of further areas of flaked paint just above the lower edge etc... Relatively light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Otherwise each in reasonably good and stable condition. Not examined with a UV light.
Tadeusz Styka (1889-1954) Polish Portrait of a haunting beauty Signed and indistinctly inscribed, oil on paper laid to panel, 58cm by 43cm Artist's Resale Rights/Droit de Suite may apply to this lot, please refer to our Terms of Business . on removal from the frame this work is painted on paper or card laid to panel. general rubbing, scratches and scuff to outer edges. covered in a layer of dirt and dark coloured splashes in a vertical fashoin from the sitters left hand shoulder to lower edge other relatively minor abrasions within the chest area and a further patch of surface abrasions / more prominent surface dirt across left hand side of the sitters neck. other brown coloured small splashes within the face mostly containied to her left hand side. further fine slightly diagonal scratch to paint within the lower tips of her fringe right hand side. odd other minor scuffs/scratches to background notably above the signiture and indistinct inscription whenere the paint has been diluted and applied thinly and may be the background colour showing through or where the paint has not been applied fully. very small pock mark to surface just left of her shawl within the skin left hand side. no more than 0.5cm across.
After Sir Anthony Van Dyck (1599-1641) Portrait of Queen Henrietta Maria and child, full length, seated, wearing a brown silk dress holding a child, a dog seated to the left Oil on canvas, 125cm by 100cm Provenance: Marquess of Downshire, Easthampstead Park by descent. See illustration. Frame: Carved wood gesso and gilt frame with significant worm holes and various losses (AF) . Notable warping to stretcher effectively bowing in convex fashion. the original canvas , therefore is adrift and worn at several points. reline of some age which has been painted and adds an additional to stiffening aspect to the overall canvas and surface. Covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish, bringing a chalky quality particularly to the edges and areas of the varnish appearing opaque in nature around the chair and edges of the figures. The surface has numerous scratches and abrasions some of which have been restored with associated retouching. corners with retouching clearly visible with the naked eye. there is a patch of effectively three linear marks of retouching towards upper left hand corner and approx 7-8cm full length. some general overpainting and in filing to edges or a significant date and throughout background to a degree. further overpainting an strengthening of a likely date throughout the ochre colour of Henrietta's dress and drapery in general. it is likely that the canvas has been in a damp environment resulting in the general state of the canvas, several patches of lifting/craquelure especially throughout the back ground of the right hand side. evident missing areas of flaked paint and also evident areas of deteriated overpainting and restoration, numerous surface scratches and abbrasions. sold AF
A Good Early 18th Century Joined Oak Refectory Style Dining Table, the four-plank top with cleated ends, with single frieze drawer, on turned legs joined by a moulded H stretcher, 244cm by 80cm by 75cmVery slight movement in joints. Plank top with natural? gaps in boards with some splits. Reasonable uniform colour throughout. Some old decay to drawer linings with later brackets added for strengthening. One of the cleated end sections with patch repair and typical old decay around the block feet. Later feet added for height (see images).
A Late George III Mahogany, Marquetry and Parquetry Decorated Linen Press, early 19th century, the moulded cornice and hinged lid above two moulded cupboard doors inlaid with urns and enclosing four sliding trays, the base with two short over two long drawers, on bracket feet, 131cm by 59cm by 212cmGood cosmetic condition throughout and with fairly uniform colour. The left-hand marquetry panel to the cupboard doors with a small section of marquetry around the urn missing. Left-hand side previous screw holes? have been partly filled and polished. The urn marquetry is lifting slightly also. The opposing side with small split to the marquetry with some small repair work. With key and working lock. Drawers are paper lined. The cock beading generally good with small repair work. Small patch repair on the top drawer and a very small split left-hand end panel. Right-hand end panel with deep scuff mark and the right-hand lower panel with small patch repairs.
A George I Walnut, Crossbanded and Barber Pole Strung Bureau, early 18th century, the quarter-veneered fall enclosing a fitted interior of pigeon holes and small drawers above three small drawers with three long graduated drawers below, on bracket feet, 94cm by 54cm by 106cmCosmetically good and reasonable colour. Small sections of veneer replaced mainly around the back-right corner and left-hand corner. Fall front with further small repairs and patch above the escutcheon. Later handles with some previous handle marks visible (see images). Further small veneer losses around the dust boards and base. Interior with splits to the base section which have been partly filled. Later section of timber spliced in between the hinges. Later bracket feet.
A George III Mahogany and Crossbanded Straight Front Chest of Drawers, circa 1760, the moulded top above two short and three long graduated drawers between column supports, on bracket feet, 92cm by 48cm by 78cmSome variations in colour/fading. Timber rather dry around the top with some shrinkage splits (see images). End panels with fine split. Drawers are oak lined with later handles. Front-left bracket foot with small section of timber missing ?? replaced and locks later. Small patch repair around middle escutcheon. Faults on dust boards between drawers (see images). Patch repair to bottom drawer around escutcheon, with key and working locks.
