Julius Caesar Ibbetson (1759-1817) ``W Danby Esq of Swinton, Yorkshire``, standing holding a gun, a pointer nearby Inscribed and dated 1817 on a plaque, oil on canvas, 35cm by 48cm Exhibited: Sotheby`s 1984, British Sporting Heritage Exhibition, no.186 Ex collection: Sackville, 5th Earl of Yarborough The painting is in an overall good state of preservation. There is a small patch of repainting on the tail of hound where it meets the hind quarters. There is also some small isolated patches of older retouching in the vegetation to the right of the hounds snout and also above the head. The edges have had a small amount of repainting, presumably where a loose frame has caused some losses. The painting has a circa 1960`s glue reline. 060313
