He was instrumental in Leeds Art Gallery being the first public institute outside London to acquire a painting by Francis Bacon.The desk was then bequeathed by him to William Thompson Oliver, Deputy Editor, Art Correspondent and Literary Editor of the Yorkshire Post (this will be a matter of public record), thence through the family to my late husband, Patrick Oliver.Variations in colour, particularly front section which is faded. Top section has a circular patch were the veneer is starting to lift. Several fine splits on top also. Natural? splits to end panels. Small section of veneer missing above the lock.
