A .54 GREENE'S PATENT BRITISH CONTRACT BREECH-LOADING PERCUSSION CAVALRY CARBINE, serial no. 1375, circa 1856, with 18in. two-stage sighted barrel retaining some original faded blued finish, case-hardened tang marked 'GREENE'S PATENT / JUNE 27. 1854', case-hardened back-action lock with tape-primer marked 'MAYNARD'S PATENT / SEP. 22. 1845', the lock marked with 'VR' cypher and 'MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS / U.S.A. 1856', walnut butt, iron mounts including patch-box cover retaining some fade case-hardened finish, iron suspension ring, War Dept. inspection marks and obsolete / sold out of service marks.
A small Bilston enamel oval-shaped patch box, the lid inscribed "A Token of Regard" (lid slightly cracked), 1 1/2in. wide; together with an oval Bilston enamel patch box, the lid inscribed "Look and Remember Me", within garlands of flowers (lid damaged), 2in. wide; and one other oval-shaped Bilston enamel patch box, inscribed "Love for Love" below an urn, standing on a pedestal (lid and base damaged), 2in. wide.
