Some losses to the pigment and chips to the wood. Leather strap is somewhat brittle and fragile.

Continental ceramic blue and grey jardiniere pedestal, possibly German, in the style of Westerwald pottery, ca. late 19th to early 20th century. Stoneware with salt glaze and cobalt wash decoration.The jardiniere features two applied handles and designs in relief of male figures and geometric motifs along its exterior. It rests on a stepped circular socle that is surmounted atop a columnar pedestal adorned with foliate motifs. The piece boasts an elegant, fluted column and a captivating blue, grey, and richly textured finish. Subtle variations in hue highlight the artisanal craftsmanship, while the intricate details of both the jardiniere and pedestal evoke a sense of historical grandeur.Total, height: 43 1/2 in x diameter: 19 in.Condition: There are no major restorations to the pedestal. There are many small to medium-sized losses and large chips along the high points of the applied leaf and pinecone forms throughout the pedestal. There is a chip along the upper rim of the base as well a small patch of adhesive residue; these are only visible when the bowl or vase of the pedestal is lifted to reveal them. Wear along the underside. Dust and debris gathered along the interior.

Label attached to verso.Unframed; height: 16 3/4 in x width: 14 in. Framed; height: 21 in x width: 18 1/4 in x depth: 2 in.Condition: Areas of craquelure throughout; stretcher marks along the perimeter of the painting. Some signs of wear from a previous rabbet or frame along the edges. When inspected under UV light there are several areas throughout that fluoresce. One patch is visible along the verso which corresponds to the area around the point of the arch. The painting is attached to the gilt wood frame with two nails along the verso; as such, it moves slightly within the frame. Some light wear to the frame.

The canvas has an old repair to the lower right in the rowing boat- old patch is visible verso with some paint repair. There is a small reverse puncture to the lower right (see additional photograph). The paint surface has craquelure throughout but the paint appears stable - no obvious paint loss or deterioration. The frame has some general wear and tear, joints are sound.

Light soiling throughout. There is a small loss along the lower center edge and a corresponding patch along the verso. Light wear to the edges. The work is not framed.

Set of four woodblock prints depicting full-length portraits of well-dressed men against a repeating patterned blue background, ca. 1859-1865.Each, height: 14 1/4 in x width: 9 3/4 in.Condition: The sheets are possibly trimmed and lightly toned. One print with a tear and corresponding patch; the tear is along the right edge. Another print with a tear along the lower left corner. All prints with scraps of paper affixed alogn the lower edge. Light soiling throughout all. The work is not framed.

Keisai Eisen (Japanese, 1790-1848). Woodblock print from the series "Poems of the Four Seasons: Childhood Play," ca. 1818-1830.Height: 14 7/8 in x width: 10 in.Condition: The sheet has been possibly trimmed and is toned. Soiling throughout, more so along the margins. Small losse along the edges. Repair to the lower right corner as evidenced by a patch along the verso. The work is not framed.

Lot 131

Hiroshi Yoshida (Japanese, 1876-1950). Double oban woodblock print on paper titled "Return of the Fishing Fleet" depicting boats and figures coming ashore, 1928. Hand-brushed signature along the lower right; titled in pen along the lower left. With an early red jizuri seal along the left margin.The jizuri "self-printed" seal indicates that the printing process was directly supervised by him and that he played an active role in the creation of this print. These seals were typically reserved for only the highest quality impressions as decided by Yoshida. Though this seal is not the usual bright red as expected in his earliest jizuri prints, the print itself does not contain much red pigment. Additionally, the jizuri seal color matches that of the red seal in the lower right below Yoshida's hand-brushed signature.Height: 21 3/4 in x width: 15 7/8 in.Condition: The sheet is lightly toned. There are no major tears. There is a small patch along the upper left quadrant. Some wear including handling marks, light creases, and small chips along the extreme edges. Some soiling to the verso, particularly along the upper left corner. The work is not framed.

There is a small patch to the inside of the bowl which is slightly lighter. There are some surface scratches to the inside of the bowl. There is baize struck to the bottom of the larger bowl.
