Lot 83

American percussion .45 calibre rifle the barrel by Remington, American percussion .45 calibre rifle, 29.5 inch heavy profile octagonal barrel probably converted from flintlock, stamped Remington to the underside and fitted with 20th-century Parker Hale sights, the half stock fitted with brass furniture including scrolling trigger guard, patch box and cresent butt plate, mid 19th century. Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out.114cm long There is a very strange perfect ring mark around a quarter of the way down the bore (from the muzzle) which does not look like pitting and almost looks machined but I cannot see why. (see image uploaded) Outside of this the bore of this rifle is generally good with some light surface corrosion towards the muzzle. The front sight is a modern replacement and the rear sight might have been changed too. The tang has been adapted to take a peep sight. There is a fair amount of pitting around the nipple area. The barrel exterior has some scuffs, marks, and minor corrosion spots. The nipple has been replaced. The action works correctly with a strong spring. The ramrod is a replacement. The stock has some scruffs and marks, there is a filled area and a split around the lock but outside this no splits or repairs.

Lot 75

Flintlock composed Jager rifle Composed .70 calibre flintlock Jaeger rifle, made from antique parts in the German style which inspired the Baker Rifle, the heavy octagonal barrel fitted with sprung leaf sight with several range apertures, later added bayonet bar, stamped with the gun serial number 1200, plain lock with swan necked hammer, the stock with brass furniture and later added patch box.Section 58(2) antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence.110cm longThe rifle has been put together in the 20th century from antique parts, consequently it does not have the patina and feel of an older gun. The bore has some light pitting, the outer metal finish has some wear and the bluing is fading in places. The front sight, rear sight, bayonet bar and barrel tang show signs of alteration. The action cocks and releases, the frizzen is a replacement to the lock. The stock has two splits at the muzzle, there is a restuck chip beside the tang, the patch box has been added recently and is a different colour. There are dents, scratches and marks to the woodwork. There is a soldered repair to the trigger guard.

UK RFD OR A FIREARMS LICENCE WITH CORRECT VARIATION FOR 8mm RIFLE REQUIRED TO BUY THIS LOT.130cm longThe rifle shows signs of hard working life. The bore has a reasonably strong rifling pattern, lighter around the throat. There is some light pitting within the rifling and the bore has the dark patina of the exterior of the rifle. The metalwork generally has a dark lightly pitted patina overall. The action appears to function correctly and the magazine feed / cut off works as it should when switched on or off. The woodwork has a lot of dents scratches, stains and marks typical of a military gun. There is a heavier patch of dents just below the sight. Buyer must be over the age of 18 and ID will be requested if the gun is to be posted out to a home address.143cm longThe gun has a dark brown patina and would benefit from a good clean up to look its best. The conversion to centrefire is a good working adaption but is by no means the work of a trained gunsmith. The barrel has some light surface dents and overall fine pitting, the bore has pitting throughout which would improve with lapping but will probably never be a mirror bore. The barrel is on face and tight on the action with no wobble with the forend removed. There is a patch of deeper pitting to the underside of the barrel which is covered by the forend. The action functions correctly a strong spring, it is in similar condition to the exterior of the barrel with some new/ fresh minor surface corrosion spots. The stock is free from splits or repairs. Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out.34cm long The gun is in average condition showing signs of restoration. The metalwork to the exterior of the gun has some overall dark pitting, the engraving in places is obscured by this. We are not confident that the name Manton is correct, it is very faint and might be period but we do not think this gun has the quality of Manton. The bores have some pitting throughout, the barrels have been polished up and re-browned, they are starkly different in appearance to the rest of the metalwork. The swivel ramrod assembly has been replaced. The actions cock and release with reasonably strong springs. The rear trigger is a replacement and does not set off the left hammer correctly without a little rearward pressure on the hammer. The hammer screws are possibly both replaced. There are lots of dents and marks to the wood stock which can be seen from the images. There is a filled patch where there has been some damage at the base of the chequering on the right hand side of the gun. There is chipping and dents to the wood around the lock plates.

The bore is bright and shiny with a decent rifling pattern that is only just softening around the edges. There is a strange patch of pitting over the maker mark on the side of the action, perhaps a label or sticker has been here which has allowed moisture to attack the surface, there are scattered patches of light pitting throughout the gun. The stock has an inlet piece of wood beside the barrel band and a wood plug on the other side. The upper hand guard is missing from the rifle and the holes for the clips have been filled in. Some screw heads show signs of being worked.

Lot 114

Bentley percussion 16 bore shotgun Bentley & Son percussion 16 bore shotgun 29.5 inch Damascus barrels engraved 'Bentley and Son, Makers to H.R.H Price Albert, Liverpool', the actions engraved with game birds, gun dog, and scrollwork, no serial number.Section 58(2) antique / obsolete calibre, can be bought with out a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18 and ID will be requested if the gun is to be posted out to a home address.117cm longThe gun is in average condition but needs some cleaning and light restoration to look its best. The metalwork to the exterior of the gun has some light pitting. This is more so on the barrels, trigger guard and butt plate than it is on the locks. There are cororsion patches scattered throughout. There is a patch of thick corriosion to the tops of the barrels just ahead of the nipples. There are no obvious dents to the sides of the barrels but there is a small dent and rough patch to the muzzles which needs tapping back down and maybe careful filing. The bores are dark, dirty and look to have some surface corrosion, they would improve with cleaning and careful polishing but there may be some underlying pitting. The barrel rib looks to be all inplace with no signs of lifting. The barrel wedge has some distortions to the edges of the head where a screwdriver has been used to pry it out. The ram rod is a replacement and lacks the horn tip. The actions cock and release with strong springs. The stock is free from splits or cracks, there are some small dents and scratches. The right hand side of the forend has some chipping and shallow losses to the thin edge.

Lot 60

Section 58(2) antique / obsolete calibre, can be bought with out a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18 and ID will be requested if the gun is to be posted out to a home address.118cm long The rifle has had alot of time and money spent on it improving the condition. The lock plates however are so heavily pitted (as well as other small areas of the metalwork) that they are always going to give its previous condition away. The hammers barrel wedge and rear sight are replacements. The bores are pretty good, bright and shiny with a decent rifling pattern however it is suspected that a dent might have been lifted from the right tube. The nipples have some fresh corrosion spots. The whole gun has been refinished and the stock has been re-chequered. The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are occasional scratches and dents from use but nothing defacing. There are two small woodworm? holes beside the ramrod pipe.
