William Traies (1789-1872) The River Okement, Devon; fishermen on the bank of a rocky river gorge, mountains beyond old labels to reverse with reference to “...Old Traes’ and title ‘River Okement’ oil on canvas 78.5 x 65.6cm Provenance: Ethel E.Rickman 1900 Born in Crediton, Devon, in 1789, Traies gained a reputation as the ‘Devon Claude’, through his well executed, romantic and idealized landscapes. He exhibited at The Royal Academy and at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter. His patrons were the Reverend Carrington of Bridford and the Rev. Patch of Trinity in Exeter. He had a studio at Whiteway, Chudleigh for 40 years. He died in 1872 at Parkes Well Cottage, Topsham Road, Exeter.

An Early 19th Century American Percussion Cap Military Rifle by Henry Deringer, Philadelphia, (converted from a flintlock), the 91cm steel barrel stamped with P proof mark, LS US near the breech, the rounded steel lockplate dated 1827 and stamped US H.DERINGER PHILADa, the full walnut three band stock stamped CP behind the side plate, with steel recurving trigger guard, sling swivels, hinged patch box to the butt, with brass tipped steel ramrod.

Watmough, Manchester", blueing intact, foliate engraved lock, percussion action, English checkered walnut stock with vacant cartouche and with patch box to pommel. "OLD SOLDIER", AN EARLY CENTRE-SEAM TEDDY BEAR with blonde mohair, pronounced muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs with felt pads, hump, khaki uniform covered in military badges, a Union Jack waistcoat and whistle, possibly Steiff, 1910-20s-21.1/2in. (55cm) high (very worn, patched and darned, three pads recovered and eyes replaced) Provenance: A note found in this bear`s pocket reads "all I know about the teddy is that he was bought with a lot of other soft toys and was in a box of military items (12 years ago). 10 years ago he had been to a dolls hospital for replacement eyes and patch up work, Sadly I do not know any more about him, but feel he must have been a mascot of a regiment by the way his clothes are decorated)

An 18th Century gold châtelaine with all-over repoussé work decoration of Classical figures and scrolling acanthus, the clip supporting three various boxes, one as a nécéssaire containing spoon, pen knife, scissors, ivory tablet with pencil inscriptions, etc, the other two as bonbonières / patch boxes, housed in a leather covered case containing card inscribed "The words written on ivory tablet in this châtelaine are by Jane Falk whose parents opposed her marriage. She is supposed to have written and passed the tablet to her lover (afterwards her husband Captain James George Wordeman) with whom she ran away and married in Falmouth Parish Church 1763 (March 11th). She died in 1775 at Riga Russia.", approx 104 grams of weighable gold (untested) (ILLUSTRATED) £2000-3000
