An historically interesting document relating to Rugby Union being an original 1904 auction catalogue that includes the sale of market garden land upon which Twickenham Stadium would be built shortly after and thereby becoming known affectionately as the "cabbage patch",published by the auctioneers Messrs. Chinnock, Galsworthy & Chinnock at The Mart, Tokenhouse Yard, in the City of London, the auction held on 12th April 1904, the rugby connection relating to Lot 7, coloured yellow on the sale catalogue's fold-out plan, and described as: THREE VALUABLE FREEHOLD ENCLOSURES OF MARKET GARDEN LAND, FORMING PART OF ERNCROFT FARM, SITUATE IN THE PARISHES OF TWICKENHAM AND ISLEWORTH, HAVING FRONTAGES TO OAK LANE AND MOGDEN LANE, AND INTERSECTED BY THE RIVER CRANE, in moderate but reasonably stable condition, but with some paper loss and damage due to page turningAt the close of the 1905/6 season RFU treasurer William Cail made the momentous decision to initiate the search for a new and permanent home for English Rugby. The task of finding a new headquarters was handed to Billy Williams, an RFU committee member and seasoned property professional.Williams was aware of the market garden land that had been auctioned in 1904, and that is was being offered for rent near to Twickenham. In 1907 a purchase of ten acres was made by the RFU for the princely sum of £5,500 12s 6d.The rest is history, as they say, and Twickenham was to assume the mantle of the "Home of Rugby."
A silver plated covered tureen, the finial formed as a recumbent deer, the handles formed as stags heads, raised on deer legs, the ladle handle formed as a deer's leg Condition report: There is a crest engraved to the body. There is a dent just below the crest. The interior is very scratched and pitted. The whole needs a good clean as it is tarnished and there is a yellow patch to the body. The cover and ladle are in good condition just tarnished

Front patch pockets, lined in latte toned poly-satin and monogrammed 'Joyce' to interior. Excellent condition, size, UK 12-14. Also a blonde mink double pelt stole with heads and tails in very good condition.

A HAND WRITTEN DIARY AND ACCOUNT OF THE LIFE AND SERVICE IN THE GREAT WAR OF STOKER TOM HOUGHTON, who served aboard HMS Albion, present is the hand written version of the diary, together with a produced and bound typed version, also present are a number of photographs in black and white which show bridge building later possibly WWII, also a cloth patch for the 'Desert Rats' with the diary is a press cutting announcing the death of Houghton and it states that he was awarded the 'Carnegie Hero Trust' medal for saving life, research shows that the award was from an incident involving HMS Antrim in Belfast on 12.2.1994

Also with this lot is a copy of 'Gliding into War' by Ian & Celia Toler, signed by the author, collection of research regarding Major Toler's war service.

An early 17th century and later coloured map of 'The Countie Palatine of Lancaster described and divided into hundreds', illustrated with royal portraits and with gazetteer verso, 39.5 x 53.5cm, and a further John Speed early 17th century and later coloured map of Yorkshire, 30 x 52cm, both framed and glazed (2). CONDITION REPORT: The map of Lancashire has several creases to the image, the top margin is short, it is heavily stained with a circular patch to lower left, The map of Yorkshire is heavily stained, creases to image and the margins are trimmed.

First World War Royal Artillery Officers Sword by Henry Wilkinson No.48468, straight single edge blade sharpened for field service, cut with a single fuller, etched and polished with owner’s name C.CHALLEN, ROYAL ARTILLERY, royal arms and regimental devices, regulation triple bar guard, silver wire bound fish skin grip, in its leather covered field service scabbard. Blade 89cms. Good untouched condition, blade retaining nearly all of its original polish with a few small rust spots and small patch of pitting behind pommel. C. Challen, R.A. promoted Lieutenant 1st July 1917 (and still listed as Lieutenant in November 1918).

A fine quality field grey Waffenrock with red piping (waffenfarbe), dark green collar and cuffs, the latter ornamented with red backed litzen. Aluminium wire collar patches, breast eagle and red backed shoulder straps. The latter bearing gilt '96'. Medal group to breast comprising 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class, 1914-16 Honour Cross with Swords, 18 year Long Service Cross and 4 year Long Service Medal, the latter two with silvered eagle emblems on ribbons. To the other side is a fine silver bullion aiguillette. Grey rayon lining bears tailor's label of Joh. JungbaŸr, Urfahr - Linz ... Complete with brocade belt of green/grey felt lined aluminium wire with two green lines bearing circular oakleaf wreath clasp bearing eagle and swastika to centre (patch of moth damage to lining).
