MOORE BROS: a 19th century oil lamp, the circular reservoir with applied floral decoration supported by a cherub, with frosted glass shade, height including shade 41cm.Age wear rubbing to the gilding. Crazing throughout. There is a small patch of crazing to the reservoir which is more pronounced. Crazing to robe of the cherub with some staining. Small chip to the glazed white section which sits directly underneath the reservoir. Base with some discolouration. Hair line crack to one ankle and to the base of the robe.

Tech. Evans. R.); Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., E.II.R., 2nd issue (445 Chf. Tech. Evans R.); Rhodesia, General Service Medal (Fg. Off. R. Evans.) mounted for display purposes on a velvet cloth with the recipient’s cap badge, Warrant patch, and shoulder boards, light contact marks, good very fine and better (5) £240-£280 --- Robert Evans was born in Chester on 4 September 1924 and served during the Second World War initially in “C” Company, 6th Cheshire (City of Chester) Battalion, Home Guard, from 16 August 1941 to 18 November 1942. He joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve on 19 November 1942 and served with them as a Fitter Second Class, before transferring once again to the Royal Navy as an Air Fitter (A) from 3 May 1945. He was released Class ‘A’ Reserve on 20 August 1946. Evans subsequently served with the South African Air Force as a Fitter Second Class from 9 June 1946 to 8 June 1951, and then with the Rhodesian Air Force from 4 September 1951 to 4 September 1974, being advanced Warrant Officer Class 1 on 10 September 1962, and Flying Officer on 20 March 1969. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 8 June 1963, and was discharged with the rank of Flight Lieutenant, his last appointment being Officer Commanding, Aeronautical Inspection Services. More pronounced irregular patch of additional staining within background / lower sky which arches round the back of the resting brown cow which is approx 2cm in width at the widest point and 6cm in length (see images). Colour depth notably down. Odd sporadic foxing spot mostly evident to sky. Very slight cockle here and there but not examined out of the frame. The staining mentioned in proximity to the cow maybe a result of something behind the sheet?
Walter Williams (1834-1906)Figures on a rowing boat beside a riverOil on canvas, 29.5cm by 60cmIn fully restored condition, fairly stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished. Now with a notable amount of surface dirt and discoloured varnish. The surface is somewhat flattened and paint is thin in places as a result of the restoration process. Various swathes of retouching and overpainting throughout the sky. More delicate general strengthening of a more linear form with the reflections in the water right-hand side. Small patch of retsoration//overpainting within lower reaches of foliage, tree approx centre and approx 0.5cm by 1cm across. Some further retouches and strengthening to the darker shadows within the foliage of the tress left hand side. Areas of cracquelure mostly to sky, slight stretcher shadow.
Francesco Vinea (1845-1902) Italian"The Lost Game"Signed, oil on canvas, 59cm by 48.5cmGlazed. Original canvas and in good original state of preservation. Surface dirt and discoloured varnish, various debris trapped beneath glass lower mount and elsewhere. Crack to glazing upper left corner. Two small white surface marks within masonry of the archway and approx 2-3cm left of the far left-hand side standing figures at hat rim. Some interrupted retouching along the upper edge, small patch of retouching to upper right-hand corner, general retouching to upper left corner and left-hand side. Further extended retouching to left-hand side edge running from shoulder height of standing gentlemen to lower left hand corner and is approx 2-4cm at widest point. Mostly unaffected elsewhere within the composition.
John Syer (1815-1885) Greenham Common, SomersetSigned, oil on canvas,48.5cm by 73.5cm Provenance: David Cross Gallery, BristolIn fully restored condition fairly stiffly relined cleaned and revarnished. The surface is somewhat flattened and the paint is thin in places as a result of the restoration process. Some surface dirt and discoloured splashed now in evidence. The upper left corner entirety of top edge retouched and overpainted approx 3cm at the widest point. Mostly at the upper left-hand corner. Upper right-hand sedge above the canopy of trees also rtouched and ovepainted with some strengthening through the sky immediately above the trees. Further smaller sporadic retouches within sky elsewhere. Retouching and overpainting the lower left-hand corner and essentially v-shaped retouching to the lower left corner and into the water. Retouching to the right-hand side edge extremity of the pathway. Further domed patch left of lower right-hand corner. Other retouches within the landscape minor and sporadic. Couple of tiny losses just left of centre, upper edge. More significant retouching is mostly visible by eye, otherwise in a stable state of preservation.

Canvas is slightly adrift of the frame upper right-hand corner showing some minor rubbing. Light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Odd extremely superficial patch of cracquelure. William Geddes (1841-1884) ScottishThe young anglerSigned, oil on canvas, 53.5cm by 34cmOriginal canvas. Slight stretcher shadow especially along upper horizontal. Odd minor rubbing/abrasion/loss to outer edges with fine vertical inprint/transferance of gilt paint mostly to upper left hand side. Areas of small sized craquelure which is more pronounced across the rock left hand side edge above lower left hand side corner. Further less pronounced patches across his trousers, general lapels of jacket, his right hand arm and the water immediately behind and around his outstretched right arm. Other areas of craquelure less visible in general. Patch of retouching towards lower right hand corner, small patch of retouching immediately below his lower lip. The upper outer edges and darker tones of the large rock that the angler rests his right foot upon may have received a small amount of strengthening. Some surface dirt and discoloured varnish that has been brush applied. There is a further opaque coloured vertical splash mark which runs from the underside of his right palm through the expanse of water to the lower edge. Tiny horizontal imperfection or nick to canvas just below his left hand grasping hand and no more than 0.5cm across. Otherwise in a broadly good and stable state of preservation.
Thomas Luny (1759-1837) Sorting the catch at sunsetReputedly signed and dated 1833 to reverse, oil on panel, together with a further signed and dated 1833 oil on panel attributable to the same artist, depicting tall masted ships in choppy waters, 19.5cm by 25cm and 19.5 by 24.5cm respectively (2) Example with sunset - In fully restored condition. Covered in a layer of surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Surface is slightly abraded overall as a result of the restoration process. Panel appears sound, very slight convex profile. Minor abrasion to lower left-hand corner. Notable patch of restoration to top edge centre approx 7cm by 1cm at widest point. Other sporadic patches including upper right-hand corner extending down to right-hand side with a more comprehensive likely swaive of incongruous paint or restoration. All of which has a chalky quality and covers a good proportion of the right-hand side sky and sea, possibly to a lesser extent to left-hand side sky (see images). Fine stable cracquelure. Very fine and sporadic retouches within lower right hand corner and across the foreground with some fine and delicate strengthening to the outlines of the ship and figure group. Retouching to upper right-hand corner. AF.Example with choppy waters - In fully restored condition. Various restoration across surface with areas of cleaning and retouching which is visible by eye and has an incongruous and chalky-coloured appearance (see images). Variation of colour around artist's signature, (see images). Some general abrasion to surface. Surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Sporadic retouches to sky within the left-hand side edges of the upper edges of the darker-coloured clouds towards upper right-hand corner. Further retouches to lower right-hand corner and within the sea along the lower edge and right-hand side foreground. Panel or board is essentially sound. AF.
