Diagonal surface abrasion/damage with minor perforation or puncture to canvas running from the foot of the far left-hand side tower towards the two figures in the foreground. Small chip or loss to foot of left-hand side tower, further cluster of minor imperfections to lower right-hand corner. Tiny loss or two within sky towards upper right-hand corner, seemingly small patch of retouching to the upper left-hand corner. Tiny crack to right-hand side edge just above the lower window of far right-hand side turret. Slight stretcher shadow.As per the description - "Manner of" indicates that this is an out of period picture and most likely 20th century.

Small patch of retouching no more than 1cm in length approx 7cm from lower left-hand corner. Some general strengthening to shadows under thatch towards the upper right-hand corner. Odd further patch of strengthening within thatching. Subtle stretcher shadow, small loss and minor flaking within area of strengthening and retouching below thatching upper left-hand side. Some surface dirt and discoloured varnish, canvas lifting from reline lower left-hand corner and edge. Minor amount of transferred gilt paint along the upper edge mostly contained to left-hand side. Some slight flattening to surface and impasto as a result of the restoration process. Fine stable cracquelure throughout.

Covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. Slight stretcher shadow. Isolated patches of fine but relatively pronounced areas of cracquelure across face. The varnish has deteriorated and has an opaque-like quality which is particularly evident across some of the darker pigments and tones of the background and dress. These areas also have cracquelure which is essentially stable. Very minor buckle to lower right-hand corner canvas, minor rubbing to edges. Essentially circular loss to lower right-hand corner which has been infilled. A further Vertical band with further infilling and strengthening from lower right-hand corner along right-hand side edge approx 3cm at the widest point and 10cm in length. A further patch of infilling to loss just above lower left-hand corner approx 1.5cm at the widest point and 3cm in length. Patch of retouching to upper left-hand corner approx 1cm diameter. Various losses to gesso frame. Odd very superficial surface scuff etc.Provenance; Presuumbly commissioned directly from the artist. The sitter is a direct descendent of the vendor.

Perthshire" In an overall good state of preservation, cleaned and revarnished, sporadic and fine retouches within the sky. A more concentrated patch to upper left-hand corner. Delicate cluster of left-hand side tree, very odd dash elsewhere. Some relatively light surface dirt and discoloured varnish, slight stretcher shadow. Varying-sized stable cracquelure mostly evident within the sky. "Pont-y Pair, North Wales" Three square and rectangular patch repairs to reverse, images can be supplied. Cleaned and revarnished, some surface dirt now in evidence, unusually it is not possible to determine any associated retouches to the front in line with patch repairs to the reverse, but obviously does not exclude this. Areas of fine stable cracquelure broadly in good and stable state of preservation.
School of Nicholas Poussin (1594-1665) French Classical figures in an Italianate landscapeOil on canvas, 49.5cm by 97cmCondition report: In fully restored condition, fairly stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished. The canvas has a slightly convexed bow. The surface is somewhat flattened and the paint is somewhat thinned in places as a result of the restoration process. Some surface dirt and discoloured varnish, some minor rubbing to edges. Fine cracquelure mostly throughout which is more pronounced in some areas and looking precarious with some further areas where the minor areas of paint have flaked away i.e. within the rocky outcrop far left-hand side and to a lesser extent within the foliage of the trees, left-hand side. Under the application of UV light shows likely two, possibly 3 courses of intervention and restoration with retouching and areas of strengthening across the sky. Large swathes and general strengthening within the darker tones throughout the foreground with some further more sporadic and delicate retouches likely of another date. Possible horizontal tear with associated retouching at the point where the lake meets the grassy foreground just right of centre. A furthermore condensed essentially vertical patch of retouching immediately right of the lower turret and approximately 3cm in length overall. The outlining and shadows and figures have broadly been strengthened etc. For more information please contact the department.

(oval)Condition report: Old reline, cleaned and revarnished. The surface is somewhat flattened and the paint is somewhat thin in places as a result of the restoration process. Some lightly strengthening through the background with more concentrated patch at top of canvas approx 2cm at the widest point and 5cm in length. Approx 3-4 smaller retouches at his right shoulder and upper right of his laced cravat within his jacket. Further patch of retouching around the tip of his thumb approx 1 by 1cm. Another small patch or dash immediately above his first finger, outline and shadows around all fingers generally strengthened. Sporadic retouches of various lengths within lower curve and one or two more minor bits of infilling within background etc. Some surface dirt and discoloured varnish, slight stretcher shadow. Very small white surface mark at the edge of his right cheek, much of the retouching has discoloured and is evident by eye. Varnish generally has a somewhat opaque quality.

Selvedges replaced. Pile fair, slightly low in places. Small repair to one area corner (see image). A small bald patch to one palmette (see image). Pile low but never a heavy weave carpet. Some wear to inner guard stripes on one side.
A Regency Mahogany, Tulipwood Banded and Ebony Strung Clothes Press, early 19th century, the moulded cupboard doors with oval panels enclosing four pine-lined trays (one missing), the base of two short over two long drawers, shaped apron on splayed bracket feet, 131cm by 59cm by 200cmCondition report: Reasonable uniform colour. The cupboard doors are nice and flat, with no warping. There are some general scuffs above the drawers and some losses to the cock beading. Right-hand cupboard door with repairs around the hinges to a reasonable standard. The right-hand side panel has a split to the back corner which has been filled and polished (see images). There is a patch repair on one of the dustboards. One sliding tray is missing and the pine-lined drawers are open, with key.
A Chinese Porcelain Tea Bowl, Kangxi, painted in famille verte enamels with auspicious objects and mythical beasts on tables within ogee panels, painted mark in blue, 7cm highCondition report: Free from any restoration. No chips. There is a tight M-shaped hair crack towards the base. There is a firing flaw to the inside with a small patch bonded to the bottom. The glaze and enamels are in good condition with only very minimal wear.

The main body is broken and restuck with a triangular patch of restoration to one panel. There is short Y-shaped hair crack to the rim. Some typical wear. Some hairline cracks and firing cracks.

There is an amount of fairly delicate but consistent retouching through the lower half of the paneling on the left-hand side to denote the dark tones and shadow of the timbre. Vertical patch approximately 0.5cm in width along left-hand side edge approximately 3cm in length. Further dashes of strengthening and retouches within paneling lower right-hand side and background with some more consistent retouching along lower right-hand side edge and corner. There is a further relatively minor patch of retouching immediately above the subject's hat. The top right-hand corner is retouched. The shadows and definition below his drawn sword and underneath his bent left arm have also had a fairly minor degree of intervention. In addition to other minor touches throughout. The paint is slightly thin and the surface somewhat flattened as a result of the relining and restoration process.
