An ikat velvet chapan, Bokharan, circa 1900, with elaborately embroidered lower sleeves, lined in floral printed cotton, edged with woven braid Provenance: Roderick Taylor collection CONDITION REPORT: Velvet pile is very worn in places. The embroidered lower sleeves are good quality and have age and slight wear but I believe to be later than the velvet which I think has been re-used as it is such an expensive and valuable fabric. There is a 5x4cm patch to the top of the left sleeve in roughly the elbow area. The centre-back panel still has reasonable velvet pile but the remainder of the robe - sides and front are very bald. Floral printed lining is good condition. Silk/cotton ikat edges have wear. Woven and embroidered braid edges are fresh and good.

There is a 4x4cm patch to waistband where it has been let out. Stitched repair to rear lining, 19cm in length. Very faint discolouration around button holes where buttons have rubbed against the wool. Lacquer on buttons is faintly rubbed at edges (minor). One pre-stud at skirt waist is loose. Very nice suit. Jacket waist 30in, skirt waist 28in, hips 38in.
