Two triangular splits/cuts in front skirt, 4cm split in whitework at front hem and scattering of small holes. Small darned repairs at rear hem. Fraying along shoulder seam edges.·Satin gown or under-dress: hole and 2 small splits to bodice front, silk is starchy to handle - probably washed and ironed! 2cm diam hole and small split to rear hem. Faint soil mark around seat area. Overall fresh appearance.

Box is G+, a nice bright example, but has some creases, scuffs and small tears and one surface tear has been repaired with glue. Includes instruction sheet and a tag.

Overall wear with corrosion to dark brown in places; small repairs; small fabric patch verso lower end of field; losses to both ends (now stopped) fabric tape in places to left side verso. Completely plain field faded down to a soft pale colour with slightly pink overtones; wide ivory main border of large palmette design in green and sharp, deep yellow; yellow secondary border and yellow narrow inner guard. A quite spectacular design with soft lustrous wool and soft handle. Provenance: This carpet has been in the present owner's family from around the end of the 19th century.
