20th-16th century BC. A feldspar cylinder seal, the scene divided into three horizontal registers: in the upper a crouching lion with narrow waist, of slight build back and mighty upper part of the body looks to the right at a group of four caprides and he hits with one paw after the throat of the left one of both lower caprides; above this both a third capride lies, facing right to two rows of a crocus patch, above this a bird with spread wings and another capride also looking right, beneath two falcons; the middle register shows a double-lined guilloche stylising a river or brook, on its other shore, the lower register, one sees two vultures and two rabbits in antithetical scenes and another vulture between them. A mid 20th century Singer machinist's chair CONDITION REPORT: This chair has a taped patch to the seat and more tape securing the underside of the seat to the base. Presumably the base needs some attention. The chair seat may also be damaged beneath the tape. We have left the item as it was when it came into the saleroom and it is sold as seen.

Follower of Jan Josefsz. van Goyen (1596-1656) Dutch, view of a town from the river, historically known to be Nijmegen, oil on panel, 54cm by 82cm In fully restored condition. Abrasively cleaned. Patch of re-touching and overpainting at approx centre of sky which is approx 3cms in diameter. Further heavier and consistent over painting to the grey of the clouds in the sky in the upper let hand corner and elsewhere. There has been infilling and general strengthening along the horizon and around the outline of the buildings and less consistently in the upper right hand corner of the background and sky. Some further general strengthening to the darker tones and shadows of the sails of the vessels, the vegetation and the barges within the foreground. There has been general treatment of the background, most likely at different periods. Two full width horizontal splits/ evident planks to reverse with old repair and visible to the eye at the front where the surface is not consistent. The paint is thin and the surface is fairly scrubbed in various places where the grain of the wood is evident. Surface dirt and discoloured varnish.

Some paint crazing, lightly grubby. The other better but lightly grubby.
