A good pair of officer's double barrelled 24 bore flintlock holster pistols, by Twigg, c 1785; 141/2" overall, barrels 9", the top ribs engraved "Twigg-London" in capitals; plain flat stepped locks with safety bolts and roller on frizzen springs, dark walnut halfstocks with deeply chequered rounded butts, engraved steel mounts with pineapple finials to trigger guards and throat pipes; horn tipped ramrods, one with steel worm. Good Working Order and generally quite crisp condition (barrels rebrowned with small patches of pitting, one cock repaired and one a good old replacement); in their original deep fitted green baize lined oak case, the lid marked in ink "Edbert Hewett" and Major Hewett, 22nd Regt", containing good brass mounted red leather covered 2 way flask, 50 bore pincer mould stamped "WD", ebony loading/cleaning rod, another 2 piece cleaning rod, brush, worm and bullet extractor, bone handled brush, turned bone patch box, later steel oil bottle, key to case; and a letter headed "28 Carlyle Square, SW3" stating "These pistols were owned by Col Sir George H Hewett Bt of the 22nd Regt. He served in the Peninsular War. He was the eldest son of Genl. Sir George Hewett Bt, 1750-1840", signed "G. Nele (?) Hewett". The whole in generally quite clean condition.

A scarce 6 shot 54 bore Pennell Patent self cocking revolving percussion rifle, 46", browned octagonal twist barrel 283/4" Birmingham poved, engraved "Thos Pennell, 95 Bath Street, St Mary's Square". Colour hardened enclosed action nicely engraved with leopard and stag, with sprung stud to retain the hammer, the top surface engraved "Patent". Foliate engraved steel furniture, blued trigger guard. Figured walnut stock with chequered grip and silver escutcheon. Good Working Order and Condition (small patch of moderate pitting to barrel, top strap missing)
