A most unusual American 3 barrelled percussion gun/rifle, 49 overall, barrels 33, being double barrelled 14 bore smooth over .40 rifled, the broad top rib with single fixed rearsight, the upper barrels fired by means of conventional back locks retaining traces of scroll engraving and game birds, the lower barrel fired by means of underhammer, the trigger guard acting as the spring, the walnut butt with pale brass patch box and deeply concave butt plate, with ramrod on each side of the lower barrel (one lacking brass tip). A 6 shot .41 Centre fire Colt single action Army or Frontier revolver, barrel 4¾ with Hartford 2 line address, and stamped 41 Colt on left side, number 147100 (1892), frame with 2 line patent dates to 1875 and rampant Colt in circle, the chequered hard rubber grips with rampant Colt medallion. Edna & Frank Bradlow, (eds et el) Thomas Bowler of the Cape of Good Hope Quarto DJ is not clipped but has suffered some paperloss on the spine at head and tail with a 4cm patch missing from just below mid-point. The dj has been strenghthened on the reverse with a brown kraft paper liner. The dj is overwrapped with a thin plastic cover which has been affixed on the reverse. EPS are well tanned. FEP has 4 signatures. The text contains a commentary on the Bowler prints by A. Gordon-Brown. A Derby figurine, female holding shield with owl and books beneath, patch marks to base. Height 10.5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The hat has a small chip to the front edge. The neck has been broken, reglued and oversprayed. One finger of the left hand facing arm is missing. There are numerous chips to the bocage to both left and right. There are firing marks across the base. The colours are generally bright and the overall appearance reasonable.
A porcelain snuff/patch box, in the form of a mask head with tightly fitting gold coloured lid engraved with flowers. CONDITION REPORT: This lot is in extremely good condition. There does not appear to be any damage, no repairs and no restoration. The hinge and the lid of the piece are tightly fitting and snap together well. There are no hallmarks on the metal.
