WW2 Chindit’s Diary and Bullion Patch etc. Private Bill Green. The Diary/Notebook provides a fascinating account of Bill's wartime career, initially with a vehicle recovery section in Egypt in 1941, he notes that at some point he contracts Amaebic dysentery and Malaria. His notes which mention Brigadier Calvert show that he was involved with 111 Brigade which flew into Burma and operated with small boats into North Burma and also with Howforce. The notebook has been added to at a later date by Bill, clearly in a shaky hand, one section praising Lt Col. Walter Howell an Ex Naval Officer who was eventually "sacked". Considerable detail, press cuttings tipped-in, some mentioning deaths as POW's. Also original bullion Chindit badge.

A fine pair of late 19th century painted satinwood demi-lune commodes, the top surfaces decorated with Adams style floral garlands encasing batwing reserves with classical maiden and cherub scenes, the outer edge with small floral trail borders, single doors with recessed panels painted with mother and child scenes within typical Adams style oval reserves surmounted by bow ribbons, butterflies to each corners enclosed by floral borders, flanked by recessed panels to the curved sides bearing stylised Adams emblems for harvest, travel, music and art, 35¼ x 15¾in. (89.5 x 40cm.), 39¾in. (101cm.) high. (2)* Condition: Each has a key. The interiors have a single removable shelf. The tops are decorated to the same standard as the remainder of the pieces. The painted decoration is definitely original to the pieces and there is very little evidence of any retouching. The backs are nicely constructed with panels. They are in largely original condition. There are minor painted-in repairs to shrinkage cracks across both tops, and a few minor retouches to veneer chips on the edges of the tops. The tops have therefore definitely been repolished - the remainder of the surface appears to be original and in good order. One top has a patch of polish which is worn (visible in the photos). There is a minor repair to one section of moulding on the base of one commode, which has left an area which is slightly lighter in polish colour. There are no replaced parts or major repairs, and just a couple of very small and minor veneer losses to the edges. The commodes are structurally very sound and the doors open cleanly. The locks work well. No wood worm, cracks, weak points etc.
