English School, circa 1700 Portrait of Samuel Mellish (1634-1707), half-length, in a brown wrap and white cravat inscribed upper left "Sam Mellish Esq. / Son of William / ob. Oct. 26.1707. aet. 74" oil on canvas, in a faux marbled painted frame 74 x 61cm (29 x 24in) Provenance: Mawley Hall, Shropshire Oil on canvas which is unlined. There is a canvas patch on the reverse at the lower left hand side reinforcing a small damage. The canvas tension is slightly slack with undulations across the surface. The paint layer appears to be in a good, stable condition. The varnish is even and glossy. The frame is in a good condition with a marble effect painted finish and a gilded sight edge.

After Claude Lorraine (French, 1600–1682) Landscape with the Nymph Egeria mourning over Numa, with her attendants and greyhounds oil on canvas, unframed 76.50 x 103cm (30 x 40in) Other Notes: The present work is after Claude's original composition held in the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples. The subject is from Claude's Liber Veritatis. Oil on canvas which is unlined and unframed. The wooden stretcher is warped, the canvas tension is slack. The canvas is not attached along the lower edge and there are prominent stretcher bar marks. There is a patch on the reverse of the lower left hand corner which securing an old tear. The paint layer is stable but there are areas of wear, abrasion and losses. The varnish is very yellowed, patchy and uneven.

Arthur James Wetherall Burgess, ROI, VPSMA (Australian, 1879-1957) SS Gretafield; and Charles Ernest Butler (British, 1864-1933), SS Oilfield, the first signed lower right "Arthur Burgess" and the second signed lower left "C E Butler '24" oil on canvas (a pair) 65 x 105cm (25 x 41in) SS Oilfield was a tank steamship launched by the Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in Newcastle in 1923. It had several owners; including the Mid-Atlantic Shipping Co. Ltd and the Spanish government, which salvaged it in 1941 after being damaged during the Spanish Civil War in an air attack. Only in 1967, did it get demolished at Castellon. SS Gretafield was a tank steamship that was launched by Cammell Laird & Co. Ltd, Birkenhead for the Northern Petroleum Tank Steam Ship Company in 1928. The steamship was active in the Second World War and sadly in 1940, whilst on Admiralty service, it was torpedoed by a German submarine, causing the death of eleven people on board. The wreckage was washed up at Dunbeath, near Wick, and was abandoned as a total loss. SS Gretafield Oil on canvas which in unlined. The canvas tension is slack with slight undulations across the surface. There is retouching in the sky which appears to cover old areas of loss and abrasion. Overall the paint layer is stable. There is an uneven varnish layer which is yellowed with drip marks. The frame is in a good condition although the gilding on the name plaque is worn. SS Oldfield Oil on canvas which is unlined. The canvas is in plane with good tension. There is a small patch on the reverse covering a damage in the lower left hand corner. There is also a slight concave undulation near the top of the canvas, left if centre, which has been filled and retouched. Overall the paint layer is in a good, stable condition and is unvarnished.

H B Braunston (British, 20th Century) Whooper Swans over the Fens signed lower right "H B Braunston" oil on board 49 x 60cm (19 x 23in) Other Notes: The Whooper swan is a large white swan, bigger than a Bewick's swan. It has a long thin neck, which it usually holds erect, and black legs. Its black bill has a large triangular patch of yellow on it. It is mainly a winter visitor to the UK from Iceland, although a small number of pairs nest in the north. A little dirty.

CONDITION REPORTS: Some denting and misshaping, patch let in beside the handle, splits to underside, one piece of foliage decoration lacking to main body, one leaf lacking to bottom rim, general wear.
