Second World War - A USAAF Pilot Captain`s Service Tunic, `Ike Type` of regulation pattern, single-breasted with two pockets and four brown bakelite buttons to front, the buttoned shoulder straps bearing two bar Captain`s insignia, Officer`s gold `U.S.` monograms to each side of collar, with arm-of-service badges beneath, award bars above pockets, which include, Distinguished Flying Cross ribbon, Air Medal with Oak Leaf cluster, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbon with Star and a Distinguished Unit Citation Bar, with sleeve cloth insignia including Burma-India Theatre shield and 20th Air Force patch, blue cloth with goldwire decoration, the olive rayon lining bears a label inscribed `Lt. Matthews` in ink, and `Regulation - Army Officer`s Uniform`, `MFR.`s code #520, dated August 11, 1942, W-669-qm-20616, Q.M.C. Tent. Spec, P.Q.D. No.149 A, dated June 24 1942, Stock No.55-U-10442-10, Philla.Q.M. Depot, Coat Size 42L`. Lieutenant Matthews served with the 40th Bombardment Group, Caribbean Area as a 2nd Lieutenant in the latter part of 1941, flying anti-submarine patrol missions in B-18 type aircraft, returning to the U.S. in 1943 to train on the Boeing B-29 Superfortresses. After serving an eleven month combat tour, with the 20th Airforce, in the China-Burma-India Theatre, he was promoted to Captain, again returning to the States in March 1945. After the end of hostilities, he later fought in Korea, became Wing Commander of the 4043rd Strategic Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Mobile, Alabama, he retired as a Colonel in 1967, and died on October the 8th 1990.

AN OVAL DISH, DERBY OR COCKPIT HILL transfer printed with side by side Classical Ruins 1 and 2, a floral spray and three flowers, 21.5cm w, patch marks, c1764-65 Illustrated: DPIS Journal 5, 2004, A Group of Transfer Prints Associated with Richard Holdship by A Bambery, plt 4 and Twitchett (J), Derby.... an Illustrated Guide, Woodbrige 2002, col plt 68. It is probable that the finely engraved plates were brought to Derby by Holdship although the prints are not found on Worcester. The floral spray is also used on the dish with the Sutton Hall print, that was also brought to Derby, there inscribed and subsequently found its way to Caughley. ++In fine condition
