European School (19th Century) - 'The Judgement', oil on canvas, monogrammed 'R H', approx 51x76cm, inset ornate moulded and swept gilt gesso frame CONDITION REPORT: Painting restored and part repainted centre section just behind the figure with the raised hand to the right of his head, approx 6cms x10cms patch, frame will appear to be contemporary with the picture, one section of the loral leaf frieze is loose, minor chip to the inner frame.

Basically GC (heavy rust patch to blade centre, hilt dull). .

A couple of small areas of loss to reverse at top and bottom of inner oval. Otherwise enamel with light scratches, grubby but appears complete. Pierced decoration filled with dried powder. Chips and scratches to white enamel on handle. Base of handle unscrews.

Nails used to hold the canvas and stretcher in the frame are of recent manufacture canvas has not been re-lined retains the original wooden stretcher Verso: there is a diagonal repaired tear centre left approx 20cm in length patch lower centre approx 12x10cm two further small patches to the right and repaired pin hole top left some staining to the canvas on the reverse Recto: canvas is slightly ruckled in places with pronounced crazing and cracking to the paint surface with raised areas corresponding to the location of the patches on the reverse area of concentric crazing lower right corner Under inspection with uv lamp: has been re-varnished in recent years this varnish has been irregularly applied some cleaning of the varnish lower right corner and lower centre otherwise in good condition

The DFB equiment manager gave this shirt to the seller after the match. The seller was a VIP driver for the German team during the Wordl Cup 2006.
