A rare German engraved horn powder-flask recording scenes from the Saxon Electoral Court Stag-Hunt, circa 1730 with cowhorn body of flattened triangular form fitted with a carved horn baluster nozzle inset with eye-like mother-of-pearl roundels, the body engraved with a German rhyming couplet on each face and with highly detailed representations of the organistation and formal process of shooting driven game in an enclosure, involving beaters, hunters and sportsmen in contemporary dress, one face illustrating a wood inhabited by deer and being enclosed in preparation, the canvas enclosure wall being unloaded from a cart bearing the monogrammed initials CA for Churfurst August, the wall itself bearing banners monogramnmed en suite, the reverse centring on the sportsmen shooting stags driven past their pavillion, another courtly figure holding a boar at bay with a spear, and all within an incised linear frame 26.6cm; 10.5in

A pair of d.b. percussion officer's pistols by John Manton & Son, no.6 Dover Street, London, circa 1840 each with browned twist sighted barrel signed 'Manton London' on the rib (patches of heavy surface rust), engraved case-hardened breech inlaid with two platinum lines, platinum plug, signed engraved back-action locks, figured walnut full stock, chequered butt (one butt extensively chipped on the spine), blued trigger-guard, engraved steel butt-cap, blued ramrod-pipe, stirrup ramrod, silver escutcheon engraved 'From W.Whitbread to T.Macan', and each retaining traces original finish on the barrels and trigger-guard: in original mahogany case lined in green baize, the lid applied with trade label for No.6 Dover Street on the inside, the escutcheon engraved 'Major Macan' and with a three-way flask (the case interior in relic condition, the label with small tears) 35.5 cm ; 14 in Turner Arthur McCann is recorded on 25th October 1842 as Ensign in the 17th Leicestershire Regiment of Foot and on 25th November 1845 as Lieutenant in the 46th South Devonshire Regiment of Foot.

Wilkinson, London, Gun-Maker to His Majesty, No. 929 for 1814 with signed heavy browned twist octagonal barrels, silver fore-sights, case-hardened breeches inlaid with two gold lines and platinum-lined vents, case-hardened breech tangs cut with trophies and scrolls and fitted with blued back-sights, signed detented case- hardened locks with bevelled edges and recessed tails, engraved with trophies and scrolls at the rear and each fitted with pierced cock, safety-catch, blued steel-spring and roller, with highly figured walnut half-stocks, flattened chequered butts characteristic of the maker, engraved blued spurred trigger-guards and ramrod-pipes, the former each decorated with trophies and a pineapple finial, case-hardened trigger-plates, silver escutcheons for the barrel-bolts, silver-plated fore-end caps, original horn-tipped ramrods, and each retaining nearly all of its original finish with little evidence of use: in original lined and fitted mahogany case, the lid with Wilkinson trade label stating 'Successor & Son in Law, to the late Mr Hy.
