The barrels have been rebrowned and the engraving is consequently light on the rib. They ring clearly when tapped. The bores are bright with no signs of pitting. The right barrel has a very slight bulge that can be seen when sighting down the length of the tube. This is perhaps a dent that has been lifted out and is located around the second ramrod pipe area, closest to the muzzle. The barrels fit tightly into the wood stock. The actions work correctly with very strong mainsprings. The stock has a nice finish and patina, it is free from splits or repairs. There are some scratches and dents but nothing defacing.  The case lid is separating from the sides. There has been an old attempt to re-glue the lid back and this has now failed. There are two splits to the lid and a chip to one corner. There is a small spliced repair to the inner lip of one corner. The lining has a small amount of moth damage and some staining and wear. The shoulder flask leather is perishing in several places and the strap is quite delicate.

The case measures 37.5cm x 19.5cm The gun is in good general condition with a good amount of blue remaining and showing light signs of age and use. The bore shows small signs of use but a good strong rifling pattern is present with just some small patches of pitting dotted around, the worst being a ring of pitting towards the muzzle. The insides of the cylinders also have some scattered pitting marks. The blued finish is showing signs of wear in places such as the cylinder, right hand side of the frame, grip straps, and muzzle. The trigger guard has been reblued. There is some light surface speckling to the polished parts. The action works correctly with good timing, lock-up and a strong spring. The grip is free from splits or cracks, there are some small dents and scratches. Some screw heads show signs of being worked. The case has lots of dents, scratches and marks. It is structurally sound but the two rear corner joints are very slightly separating in small areas, this however does not affect the working of the box. There is a very slight warp to the lid but it shuts flat. The key does not work the lock but it cannot be removed. The lining to the inside has some spotted staining, it is worn through to the wood in small areas and there is a chip to the wood in one place. The section of lining which holds the screwdrivers is loose. The powder flask has a small dent and some scrapes and marks. The spring from the catch is missing.
