A pair of mid 19th century 38 bore percussion duelling pistols, by C Piper, Cambridge, 15¾” overall, sighted octagonal twist barrels 10”, engraved on the top flat “C Piper, Cambridge”, bar in wood locks with flat hammers, engraved with scrolls and “C Piper”, walnut halfstocks with horn fore end caps and chequered butts with vacant escutcheons; single set triggers; engraved steel swept trigger guards and stepped oval butt caps; horn tipped ramrods with concealed worms. GWO & Clean condition, retaining some original browned finish to barrels; in their fitted purple velvet lined brass bound mahogany case with rectangular escutcheon in the lid, containing 3 way copper flask by Dixon & Sons, octagonal steel oil bottle, 42 bore steel pincer mould and 2 wooden cleaning rods with brass jags (one too small for the pistols). GC (no lining to lid, key hole escutcheon missing). Plate 10
EPHEMERA (12): An early leather and EPNS hip flask with decorative cup, a silver plated hip flask 60z size with stamps to base, a modern leather covered hip flask, all three with screw tops, a Royal Worcester bone china fishing/hunting cup and saucer with maker`s box and eight whiskey glasses with an assortment of engraved flies and leaping fish, Property of Victory Bonney, London and George Bonney (his nephew).
A cased pair of walnut percussion pistols, by J Harding, London, converted, with 5 inch octagonal barrels signed J Harding London, also signed on the lock plate, the diced handle with an inset plaque above with a falcon crest, engraved trigger guard with ramrods, in a fitted mahogany case with brass crested plaque to the cover, also containing a further rod and a brass and copper powder and shot flask. Length of pistol 10in (25.5cm) l. Provenance: The Estate of Niel Rimington of Fonthill Old Abbey.
