A blue and white moon flask ‘Bianhu’ Guangxu (1875-1908) The flattened circular body on a tall foot and painted on each side with a medallion of two ferocious dragons amongst clouds and flames confronting over a ‘flaming pearl’ all within a stylised lotus scroll continued on the cylindrical neck flanked by a pair of stylised handles in the form of pine branches, 31cm. Porcelain moon flasks were first made in China during the early Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The Chinese would have been familiar with Persian and Central Asian metalwork traded along the silk road since the Tang dynasty (618-906) and regularly introduced these shapes into their porcelain production. The manufacture of a porcelain moon flask would have involved overcoming technical difficulties such as making separate sections, joining them together and firing.

An interesting miscellaneous collection: Chinese and other object d’art to include a caddy flask with decorative figural vignettes, four various Thai Sawankhalok stoneware vessels, a bowenite jade figure of Guanyin, a hard stone figure of a seated Thai Buddha, carved soapstone monkey groups, cast metal opium weights, an opium pipe, small blue and white teapot, a Russian lacquered box and a shell inlaid presentation box, a walnut parquetry inlaid box and a brass vessel.
Flying helmet, logbooks, etc relating to Flight Lieutenant C A Brackpool RAF comprising "C" type leather flying helmet with earphones, plugs and cables, oxygen mask with microphone, cable and plug, and sun visor; small log book starting in 1939 on DH60 (Tiger Moth); large log book starting with Magister and graduating to Oxford, Anson and Blenheim, then to Douglass DC2 and Lodestar flying around the Middle East, and Dakotas in the UK in 1945, then only 1959-62 mainly on Austers; post WWII private pilot's licence; WWII instruction booklets; some photographs taken in the Middle East; a grey one piece flying overall; and a large metal "Thermos" flask with carrying handle for use in an aircraft. Leather case w. insignia on top, ca. 1940, 26 x 48 x 12 cm. Contents incl. a.o.: approx. 50 bandages of various kinds, metal flask and other medical equipment. From the area of Kassel/ Bad-Wildungen. Case sl. worn. The case was likely used in one of the spas near Bad-Wildungen, where the Germans set up hospitals for the treatment of soldiers. Provenance: from a former member of the Hitlerjugend; the family sold the case after his death.

Two powder flasks from the personal property of the Emperor Napoleon III, France, third quarter of the 19th century. Drop-shaped powder flask covered with leather (small restorations, see photo), with gold imprints, on a side the crowned monogram "N", on the other the crowned imperial eagle on a fascias with thunderbolts, both framed by oak branches; gilt silver mount with adjustable dispenser, marked "SCHAUFELBERGER A PARIS". The leather pellet flask en suite. Both flasks were once part of the extraordinary case featuring a double-barreled percussion gun from the property of the Emperor Napoleon III of France, sold by Czerny's Auction on the 3rd of October 2010, as lot 2431, for 243000 Euro. At the time of the sale the case was lacking of all tools. This rare lot has great historical and cultural significance. Provenance: Czernys International Auction House, May 31, 2014, Lot 560. Rare powder flask from the property of the Boanaparte family, Italy, 17th century. The iron case is richly decorated with chasing, gold and silver inlays. The upper lid is fixed on a rotating hinge and rayed, closing screw. The iron fuse decorated with grooves and rings, complete with spring safety system. The front surface decorated with the bas-relieved heraldic coat of arms of the Bonaparte family, surrounded by feathers and surmounted by two crossed swords. On the other side there is a magnificent, realistic depiction of a musketeer with a matchlock arquebus. Both images are chased in iron and decorated with silver and gold inlays. There are two rings on the sides for attaching a belt. A wonderful collector's item with great historical value. Provenance: Czernys International Auction House, October 08, 2011. Length 24 cm.
