Beattie, 52, Upper Marylebone St.t, Portland Place, London, circa 1840, with 11 1/2in. browned twist barrel rifled with twelve grooves and signed in full on the top flat, blued blade fore-sight and rear-sight of one standing and two folding leaves, finely scroll engraved case-hardened breech with pierced platinum plug, finely scroll engraved tang and signed bolted lock, the latter decorated with a stag running down a hillside, blued double set triggers, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, engraved blued iron mounts including flat-fronted trigger-guard decorated with a further running stag, horn fore-end cap, silver escutcheon engraved with the crest involving a lion and a tiger, original brass-mounted horn-tipped ramrod, and nearly all its original finish, in original mahogany fitted case lined in green baize with accessories including brass-mounted Sykes Patent powder-flask, brass mould for ball and conical bullet, and a second ramrod, the lid with trade label of 'James Beattie, Successor to Collinson Hall.', the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle and circular escutcheon engraved with the same crest as the rifle. This rifle appears to be very little used.

Daw, 57 Threadneedle St., London, circa 1861-68, with 24in. browned twist round barrel signed in full on the sighting flat and rifled with four grooves for a Jacobs' four-winged bullet, rear-sight calibrated to 1,000 yards, finely scroll engraved case-hardened breech, tang and signed lock, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip and fore-end, scroll engraved case-hardened mounts including trigger-guard and hinged patchbox cover, silver escutcheon, original brass-mounted wooden ramrod with worm, and much original finish throughout, London proof marks, in brass-cornered fitted oak case (lid with old crack) lined in green baize and with some accessories including correct bullet mould engraved 'G.H. Daw's Improved Mould' and stamped 'G24', and brass-mounted Hawksley powder-flask, the lid with flush-fitting carrying handle and circular brass escutcheon.

AN UNUSUAL CASED .704 SPORTERISED SECOND MODEL BRUNSWICK PERCUSSION SERVICE RIFLE FOR THE INDIAN MARKET, circa 1850, with 30in. sighted twist barrel rifled with two grooves for a belted ball (bayonet bar removed) and decorated at the breech and muzzle with silver damascened arabesques, border engraved lock finely decorated with an Indian plains game scene, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, brass mounts including military trigger-guard, side-plate and butt-plate, and iron-tipped ramrod, in brass-bound lined and fitted mahogany case with some accessories including bullet mould for a belted ball and brass-mounted Barlow powder-flask with 'Improved Patent' top, the lid with trade label of Watson & Hancock, London, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and circular escutcheon (badly repaired).. Nowotny in Wein, mid-19th century, 15 1/4in. overall, with browned twist round sighted barrels signed on the sighting flat and numbered '1' and '2' respectively, scroll engraved breeches each with pierced platinum plug, scroll engraved tangs each incorporating the rear-sight, signed shaped scroll engraved locks each with stepped tail, set triggers, figured walnut half-stocks carved with scrollwork on the fore-end and with fluted butts, scroll engraved mounts including spurred trigger guards, white metal escutcheons, and some original dull grey colour-hardening to iron parts, in original lined and fitted burr walnut veneered case (lid with old crack) with some accessories including bullet mould, horn powder-flask and brass powder-measure. Footnote: Matthias Nowotny of Vienna and Leitnieritz was a court gunmaker and is recorded between 1825 and 1856, the year in which he shot himself. In 1857 his widow took over Johann Springer's business.

A CASED 60-BORE PERCUSSION SIX-SHOT SELF-COCKING TRANSITIONAL REVOLVER, mid-19th century, 12 1/2in. overall, with rifled octagonal sighted barrel, cylinder numbered from '1' to '6', scroll engraved action, bar-hammer, grip-strap, pommel and trigger-guard, and chequered walnut grips (some discolouration to iron parts), Birmingham proof marks, in fitted mahogany case lined in green baize with some accessories including bullet-mould with one stem forming a rammer, and Sykes pistol-flask, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon.

A DIXON RIFLE-FLASK, with leather-covered bag-shaped body, brass top with sprung charger graduated from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 drams; together with a powder-flask with wicker-covered bag-shaped body, with nickel-plated Sykes Patent top with charger graduated from 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 drams; and a M. Marsh, Sheffield powder-flask, with small leather-covered bag-shaped body, the brass top with charger graduated from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 drams. (3)

A DIXON BRITANNIA METAL POWDER-FLASK, with plain bag-shaped body, and charger graduated from 2 1/2 to 3 drams; together with a Hawksley nickel-plated powder-flask with embossed shaped body decorated one on side with a hunter with his horse and dog, and with two pheasants in a panel above, the charger graduated from 2 1/4 to 3 drams. A CASED PAIR OF 19-BORE FLINTLOCK PISTOLS by Twigg & Bass, London, circa 1788-90, each 14 1/4in. overall, with slightly swamped rebrowned twist barrels each with gold-lined maker's mark at the breech and gold-lined touch-hole, silver fore-sights, engraved tangs each incorporating the rear-sight and decorated with a martial trophy, signed flat bevelled detented locks (one jaw-screw replaced) each with engraved stepped tail, safety-catch, gold-lined semi-rainproof pan and roller, set triggers, figured walnut half-stocks (minor repairs) each with chequered butt, iron mounts including trigger-guards with foliate finials, horn fore-end caps, and one original iron-mounted ramrod and one later horn-tipped ramrod (iron parts with faded renewed bluing), London proof marks, in fitted brass-cornered mahogany case, probably original, lined in green baize with some accessories including Sykes three-way brass-mounted copper pistol-flask, the lid (small repair) with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and oval escutcheon engraved with initials.

A FINE CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS by Thomason & Jones, early 19th century, each 15 1/2in. overall, with browned twist octagonal barrels, silver fore-sights, recessed breeches each with gold-inlaid line, gold-lined maker's stamp, and platinum-lined touch hole, engraved tangs each incorporating the rear-sight, signed flat border engraved detented locks each decorated with a martial trophy and a sunburst, and with safety-catch, 'French' cock, rain-proof pan, and roller, set triggers, figured walnut half-stocks (minor blemishes) each with chequered butt, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard with pineapple finial, silver escutcheons each engraved with a crest, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons and fore-end caps, and iron-tipped ramrods, Birmingham proof marks, the underside of the barrels struck with Irish registration mark of King's County, in original lined and fitted mahogany case with three-way pistol-flask and cleaning rod, the lid with label bearing a coat of arms and motto, the exterior with white metal oval escutcheon engraved with a further coat of arms. Footnote: The arms are that of Lord Scarsdale of Kedleston Hall.

A CASED 120-BORE SIX-SHOT SINGLE-ACTION PERCUSSION TRANSITIONAL REVOLVER by J. Lang, 22 Cockspur St., London, Patent 2840, 10 1/4in. overall, circa 1853, with octagonal sighted barrel signed in full, engraved with a band of foliage at the muzzle and retaining some original blued finish, the scroll engraved blued barrel block with sprung rammer marked as 'V R Patent' use no. 2840, fluted cylinder, scroll engraved action and trigger-guard, figured chequered walnut butt, silver escutcheon, and scroll engraved pommel with lanyard ring, London proof marks, in original fitted oak case lined in blue baize with numerous accessories including pistol-flask and bullet mould, the lid with circular brass escutcheon.

A CASED .36 COLT 'MODEL 1851' SIX-SHOT SINGLE-ACTION PERCUSSION NAVY REVOLVER, serial no. 36672 for 1855, 13in. overall, with sighted barrel with London address, cylinder retaining some roll-engraved scene, iron grip-strap and trigger-guard, walnut grips, and matching numbers throughout with the exception of the wedge (iron parts discoloured throughout), London proof marks, in relined fitted mahogany case with some accessories including Dixon flask.
