This suitcase comes from the Constant family, who had the Constant shipping line, but lost most of their ships in the Second World War. This case belonged to Vera Constant.

A mid 19th century German 38 bore percussion target pistol by Carl Wunder in Mannheim, 16” overall, octagonal damascus barrel 10” with 10 groove rifling, the breech tang with small single blade rearsight; the bar in wood lock engraved with double line border and maker’s name in copperplate script; the nicely figured walnut halfstock with finely fluted butt and no provision for ramrod, with plain steel line engraved butt cap and spurred trigger guard with adjustable trigger. GWO & C; in its close fitted, green baize lined pale walnut (?) case to take the dismantled stock and barrel separately, and containing shaped copper flask by “B a Paris”, embossed with classical warriors head in medallion, mallet head with handle that doubles as loading rod, nipple key with ebony handle, and turned ebony cap box. GC (case lid slightly warped, no key). Plate 20

A pair of officer’s 16 bore flintlock holster pistols, by J Probin, c 1815, 12” overall, flat topped round barrels 7” with B’ham proofs and engraved on top flats “24 Lisle St, London”, the stepped bolted locks with raised pans and rollers on frizzen springs; the walnut fullstocks with chequered butts and oval silver escutcheons engraved with initials “R.H.R” in gothic script; steel mounts including engraved trigger guards with pineapple finials, and with swivel ramrods. GWO & clean condition (some well executed restoration, the barrels re-engraved); in a later green baize lined fitted mahogany case with reproduction trade label of W Smith, London, containing a 3 way tapered copper and brass pistol flask (GO & C) and a 10 bore steel pincer mould (dark patina overall).
