Clackmannanshire Volunteers Nepoleonic War Period Pair of Flintlock Box Lock Presentation Pocket Pistols2 inch, 54 bore, smoothbore, turn off barrels.  Flat side body with engraved stand of arms with central blank cartouche.  Central ring neck flint cock with line edge engraving.  Sliding safety bar.  Steel frizzen with operating spring.  Flip down trigger.  Flat side, bag shape grips with silver wire inlaid scrolls.  Silver hallmarked butt plates, Birmingham 1801-2 and maker "C.F.".  Oval escutcheon engraved "The 1st Company Of Clackmannanshire Volunteers.  Presented To Their Commanding Officer Wm Geddes Esq. In Testimony Of Their Esteem 1802".  Now contained in a period mahogany case with relined fittings.  Containing steel pincer mould.  Wooden handled turn screw with pricker.  Copper and brass priming powder flask.  Captain William Geddes was appointed a Lieutenant in the 90th Foot on the 5th November 1795. Two years later he was a Lieutenant in the Clackmanan Volunteer Infantry his date of seniority given as the 27th June 1797. On the 4th October 1802 he was appointed Captain and it is possible the pistols were presented on his promotion. He is shown still serving in 1804 now with the Forfar and Kincardine Militia. Brisley, Stroudwater Printing-Office, complete with flask, oil bottle, cleaning rod and powder measure. Edwin Budding, gunmaker and engineer, originally from Gloucestershire died in 1846.

A CASED 54-BORE FIVE-SHOT PERCUSSION SINGLE ACTION PLATED KERR REVOLVER, 5.75inch sighted octagonal barrel, with proof marks and LAC stamp to the left flat, engraved JAS KERR & CO. 36 KING WILLIAM ST EC, the cylinder with the engraved 10,847, the right side of the frame marked KERR'S PATNET 10,847, the left side of the frame marked LONDON ARMOURY, border engraved back action lock signed LONDON ARMOURY CO., chequered wooden grip, the butt with lanyard ring, contained in its green baize lined oak case, complete with flask, LAC mould and cap tin. A note within the case states Kerr's Revolver, Patented in 1858 as a single action, but in the following year was made into double action. Adopted by the Portuguese Government and much used in the American Civil War. Serial No. 272 not to be confused with the patent 10,847. A further receipt lists its purchase price as £6.
