A Royal Doulton stoneware flask of baluster tapered form, with blue-glazed top and handle, the main body brown-glazed and decorated with 'The Twins' depicting two young boys holding hands and bowing with their caps in their other hands, signed 'J Hassall', impressed factory mark, shape no.6630, 21cm high and another, similar flask, of inverted baluster form with dark brown glazed top and handle, depicting 'The Twins' wearing caps, with their arms around each other, impressed factory mark, shape no.6629, 21cm high, (2).
Formerly the property of Mrs Alice Keppel (1868 - 1947), the British society hostess, beauty and mistress to HM King Edward VII - a fine Regency Apsley Pellatt & Co. gold mounted cut glass scent flask in the form of a crown - the stopper in the form of a cross, the gold mounted collar decorated with rose, thistles and shamrocks, the crown profusely and finely diamond cut with hobnail cut base, circa 1825 - 1830 - most probably made for The Royal Household and given to Mrs Keppel as a gift by King Edward VII, 9cm high x 9cm wide, the base 6cm diameter. A similar crown flask was commissioned for Queen Adelaide from Apsley Pellatt & Co. when her husband King William IV ascended the throne in 1830 (on loan from Melissa John at the Bentley Priory Museum Collection).Provenance: Mrs Alice Keppel by descent to her daughter, Violet Trefusis and thence to John Phillips CONDITION REPORT Good original condition. Keller Paris, with French silver hallmarks (Gustave Keller was the top society Silversmiths in Paris with many European Royal clients), 14.7cm high.Provenance: Mrs Alice Keppel by descent to her daughter, Violet Trefusis and thence to John Phillips
Unusual 19th century white metal flask of baluster form, with embossed scrolling decoration against a punched background and three columned recesses containing figures of Hercules and possibly Adam and Eve, the back and shoulders of the flask with applied scrollwork (one now absent), on a pedestal stem with figures of cavorting children above a fluted knop and a domed circular foot with embossed decoration and with three applied seated figures, the hinged domed cover with embossed decoration and three protruding heads and a finial in the form of a female figure suckling a lamb, separate stopper, apparently unmarked, possibly Continental. All at approximately 7ozs, 18cm overall height
Edwardian silver spirit flask of shaped form, with engraved monogram, hinged bayonet fitting cover and separate drinking cup (Sheffield 1903), James Dixon & Son. All at approximately 6ozs, 14.5cm overall length CONDITION REPORT Overall condition is good, metal appears a little thin and flexes at the area of the engraved initials. Cover works well, fits snuggly, marks are crisp, elsewhere very minor scratches
OF CRIMEAN WAR INTEREST: A CASED .31 CALIBRE FIVE-SHOT PERCUSSION 6INCH LONDON COLT POCKET REVOLVER TO LIEUTENANT COLONEL THE HONOURABLE JOHN CONSTANTINE STANLEY GRENADIER GUARDS, 6inch sighted octagonal barrel marked with the manufacturer's LONDON stamp and London proof marks to the left side, scroll engraved to the muzzle and breech, the cylinders with good stagecoach scene and both stamped with the serial no. 2085, border and scroll engraved frame, ramrod, trigger guard and back strap, the latter also engraved Honble J Stanley Grenadier Guards, varnished wooden grips, serial no. 2085 throughout, contained in its blue velvet lined mahogany case, complete with commensurate accessories, the flask retains good lacquer to body and top, some blue to the nipple key and good blue to the mould. The case is fitted with a blank brass escutcheon to the lid but a brass Colt escutcheon engraved to the Honble J Stanley, Grenadier Guards in the same script as that appearing on the back strap of the gun is present in the case. A letter from the National Army Museum dated 11th May 1982 details that Lieutenant-Colonel Stanley served in the Crimea and was entitled to the Medal and Sebastopol clasp along with the Turkish Medal.
A REMINGTON OR COLT EMBOSSED POWDER FLASK, the pear-shaped copper body embossed on both sides with an eagle grasping a shield, olive branches and lightning bolts, the whole surrounded by stars above the legend E. PLURIBUS UNUM. Retains good traces of original lacquered finish. See the Powder Flask Book by Riling, no.s 753-757. Riling notes they were manufactured by Matthewman and the American Flask & Cap Company, generally described as for Colt's but have been seen cased with Remington-Rider or Remington-Beales revolvers.
A CLEAN HAWKSLEY COPPER POWDER FLASK, the bag-shaped body with swivel ring to the base, gilt brass top stamped with the manufacturer's details, blued spring, adjustable nozzle for 3/8 through to 5/8 drams. Retains reasonable lacquer to the body and top, of the type found in the cases of the smaller Colt revolvers. Together with another similar by James Dixon. (2)
A CASED PAIR OF 28-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY BASS, 10inch sighted octagonal barrels set with gold maker's tablets at the gold lined breeches, border engraved stepped and bolted locks, half stocked with white metal fore-ends, border engraved steel trigger guards decorated with stands of arms and pineapple finials, finely chequered slab-sided wooden butts, horn-capped wooden ramrods contained in their green baize lined mahogany case, complete with pan brush, turnscrew, bullet mould, red leather covered thee-way powder flask, waxed patches and an associated wad cutter. Lid lining removed.
A CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY ROBERT WOGDON, 9.5inch sighted octagonal rebrowned damascus barrels signed Wogdon London on the top flat, border engraved stepped and bolted locks with traces of case colour hardened finish, reconverted from percussion, gold touch holes, set triggers, full stocked with border and foliate engraved steel mounts, the trigger guards with acorn finials, brass capped wooden ramrods, contained in their green baize lined mahogany case, the lid with flush fitting brass handle and escutcheon, the lid with maker's trade label for Joseph Egg, complete with loading rod, bullet mould, turn screw, pan brush, three-way copper powder flask and case key. This pair of pistols by Robert Wogdon or Wogden were originally converted from flintlock to percussion by Joseph Egg and reconverted in the last eight years or so - see lot 308 Bonhams Antique Arms and Armour 24th November 2010 sold for £5,400.
A CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY ROBERT WOGDON, 9inch sighted octagonal barrels signed Wogdon London on the top flat and with traces of original browned finish, border engraved stepped and bolted locks with traces of case colour hardened finish, gold touch holes, set triggers, full stocked with border and foliate engraved steel mounts, the trigger guards with acorn finials, one steel capped wooden ramrod with integral powder measure the other a horn-capped replacement, contained in their green baize lined mahogany case, the lid with flush fitting brass handle, complete with loading rod, bullet mould and later copper powder flask and case key. WALLIS HULL, border engraved stepped and bolted locks signed Wallis, gold touch holes, set triggers, full stocked with crisp chequered butts, border and foliate engraved blued steel mounts, the trigger guards with acorn finials, one all steel ramrod, the other wood with steel topped powder measure, the side plate are set with a white metal escutcheon engraved with the owners initials EW, contained in their green baize lined mahogany case the lid with brass carrying handle, complete with cleaning rod, pan brush, bullet mould turnscrew and brass three-way powder flask. A very crisp pair of guns, the case with repair to hinge area and hinges loose.

MILLS 120 HOLBORN LONDON on the top flat, border and scroll engraved bolted back action lock, engraved W MILLS IMPROVED, half stocked with border and scroll engraved steel mounts, white metal fore-end cap, rectangular white metal escutcheon engraved with the owners crest, the butt set with a white metal plaque engraved with a further crest and the motto PLAISIR EN FAITS D'ARMES, steel-capped wooden ramrod, contained it its mahogany case, the lid with flush fitting handle and escutcheon, engraved Charles Kemeys Tynte Esqr 11th HUSSARS and bearing the family crest, the blue velvet lined interior with maker's trade label, complete with loading road, breech scraper, bullet mould, powder flask, nipple pot and key to the case. Please note this is a single pistol.
