A 19th Century Tranter’s Patent 54 Bore Five Shot Trigger-Cocking Percussion Revolver, with plated finish,15cm octagonal barrel, plain cylinder with London proof marks, the left side of the barrel set with hinged cocking lever stamped TRANTER'S PATENT, with inverted Y shape safety spring, the right side of the frame engraved No.9315.T and with scrolling foliage, with blued arbour spring, foliate engraved trigger guard with twin trigger mechanism and spurless hammer, with finely chequered walnut saw-handled grip, 32cm, in a mahogany case, the inner lid with paper label for B Cogswell, the crimson baize lined base fitted with accessories including a copper pistol flask, brass bullet mould, ebony handled turnscrew and nipple key, cap tin and gunpowder tinAction works. Minor wear to the plating on the extremities. Left side of grip with a line bruise to the chequering.

Bore quite crisp with some fine pitting. Dull finish with traces of bluing. Fine pitting and some black patching to metalwork. Deeper pitting to the back strap. Scratching around the wedge aperture. Case with split to lid.

A POST-MAMLUK BRASS FLASK MADE FOR SULTAN NASIR AL-DUNYA WA'L-DIN OTTOMAN PROVINCES, 15TH/ 16TH CENTURY of bulbous squat form, cylindrical neck with moulding around the base, decorated with a wide band of inscription in thuluth on a reserve of delicate scrolling vines, the moulded band decorated with cross-hatching alternating with scrolling vines separated by trefoils, the shoulder decorated with arabesque and split-palmettes 19cm high The inscriptions read: mimma ‘umila bi-rasm al-sultan al-a’zam al-a’dal nasir al-dun[y]a wa’l-din khallada mulkahu ‘, which translates as: ’“One of what was made for the greatest, most just sultan, Nasir al-Dun[y]a wa’l-Din, may [God] perpetuate his dominion”Whilst this flask is fragmentary and in a poor state, the inscriptions written in elegant thuluth against a scrolling leafy vine background are rare as they contain the words ‘made for’ and the name of a ruling sultan.
