A good 22 bore Scottish all steel flintlock belt pistol, by John Murdoch of Doune, c 1760, 12" overall, barrel 7¼" with finely fluted breech, octagonal flared muzzle, and scroll and strapwork engraving; the lock signed "IO:MURDOCH DOUN, and having rounded swan neck cock, unbridled frizzen, horizontal scear, and panel engraved with scrolling tendrils; the fullstock and rams horn butt engraved overall with panels of scrolls and entwined strapwork inset with silver lines and bands, the butt with oval silver escutcheon on each side; with original baluster steel ramrod with pierced ball, engraved silver covered ball trigger, pricker with ball finial, and spirally fluted belt hook. A George V hallmarked silver heart-shaped flask, with purple enamelled guilloché front and back, maker's mark rubbed, Birmingham 1923, length 8cm, width approx 3cm. CONDITION REPORT The purple guilloché appears to be mainly intact, with some small chips to the enamel at the edges, but otherwise no obvious areas of loss. Some faint areas to the outline where there has not been enough enamel on the fill. Under magnification, you can see scratches to the body, as well as some slight indents to the screw lid. Otherwise a good example for its age.
