A cased pair of double barrelled 70 bore percussion boxlock sidehammer pistols, by Whaley & Son, 7½Â” overall, integral round barrels 3¼Â” with Birmingham proofs and swivel ramrods beneath, the sighting ribs engraved “Whaley & Son” in Gothic script, with scroll engraved frames, top straps, hammer and trigger guards, finely chequered rounded butts with engraved German silver butt caps and vacant escutcheons. Good Working Order and Condition, retaining traces of colour hardened finish to barrels and frames, one trigger guard retaining most original blueing (2 hammer noses chipped, one hammer spur detached but present, very small patches of surface rust); in their original fitted green baize lined oak case with folding brass handle in the lid and with trade label of Witton Daw & Co, 57 Threadneedle Street, London, which has written in ink in the top corners “Pistols/11-3/ 1851” and “Case/ 3-4/ 1851”, containing a charming copper pistol flask, 3½Â” overall, retaining much original lacquered finish, loading rod with worm and separate brass jag, nipple key, turnscrew, a 50 bore steel pincer bullet mould, and key to the case. Good Condition (brass keyhole escutcheon missing, some damage to front of case where the lid had been forced). Plate 50
A cased 5 shot 54 bore Webley type wedge frame double action percussion revolver, barrel 6¼Â” engraved on the top strap “J. Blissett, High Holborn, London”, London proved, frame engraved Patent No 1312, with rammer on left side and 2 piece chequered walnut grips. Good Working Order and Condition, the barrel retaining much original blued finish, some finish to remainder, in its original green baize lined fitted oak case, containing a good bag shaped copper flask by Sykes (spring AF), single cavity bronze bullet mould stamped “WD” and “54”, cleaning rod, turnscrew, nipple key with pricker cap tin, and pewter oil bottle. A cased 5 shot 54 bore 1st Model Tranter self cocking double trigger percussion revolver, barrel 7” engraved “Deane Adams & Deane, 30 King William St, London Bridge”, the frame engraved “Adams’ Patent No 13700R”, cylinder also engraved “No 13700R”, London proved, with chequered walnut butt and separate rammer stamped “W Tranter Patent No 50”. Good Working Order and Condition, retaining traces of original blued finish; in its green baize lined fitted mahogany case with circular brass lid and keyhole escutcheons, containing double cavity bronze bullet mould, also stamped “W Tranter’s Patent No 50”, shell embossed zinc flask, cleaning rod, cap tin, grease tin, stripping spanner and replacement pewter oil bottle. A good scarce cased 5 shot 60 bore 2nd model Webley longspur single action percussion revolver number 969, retailed by Bales of Ipswich and Colchester, the 4¾Â” barrel with Birmingham proofs and engraved “G W Bales, Ipswich & Colchester”, the line engraved frame bearing “WebleyÂ’s Patent” in banner, the backstrap engraved “969”, and “By Her MajestyÂ’s Royal Letters Patent”, rammer retained to left of frame by spring clip, with 2 piece chequered walnut grips and lanyard swivel loop to butt cap. Good Working Order and Condition, in its maroon velvet lined fitted mahogany case with brass escutcheon to lid, with illustrated makerÂ’s trade label, containing 4½Â” Dixon copper powder flask, brass tipped rosewood cleaning rod with concealed worm, wooden handled turnscrew, and a cap tin. Very Good Working Order and Condition, retaining approximately 50% of original blued, colour hardened and burnished finish; in its green baize lined fitted mahogany case, containing its original detached rammer stamped “W Tranters Patent”, double cavity bronze bullet mould stamped “W Tranters Patent”, 4½Â” bag shaped copper flask by Dixon (retaining most original finish), ebony handled nipple key with pricker, pewter oil bottle, brass tipped rosewood cleaning rod with spare jag, Eley cap tin, tin of TranterÂ’s Patent Lubricating Composition, and bullet tin.
