St. Barbara, French, 15th/16th century oak with traces of polychrome, possible re-carving to the face and breast h.97cm. Literature Illustrated, The Antique Collector, December 1977, p.106. The figure holds in her left hand proper a cylindrical object. This could either be a castle an attribute of St. Barbara's or the small perfume flask that Mary Magdalene is often portrayed with. Either would be a credible designation.

an pair of Continental travelling pistols, by Gastinne Rennette, early 19th century, the 9.2cm octagonal steel turn-off barrel lined with gold coloured metal engraved top edge GASTINNE RENNETTE, evidence of iron twist figuring, foliate engraved casing with gold inlay bearing Liege proof mark, concealed trigger, one piece ivory grip, with rose gold coloured metal vacant escutcheon, classical female mask octagonal butt cap. Contained in a mulberry case, the hinged lid enclosing red baize lined close fitted interior, with matching accessories including slim copper reeded pistol flask with ivory cap. Also sold with this lot is a specially commissioned display case.

Allport, circa 1830, 7 inch octagonal steel sighted barrel, foliate engraved breech and tang, trigger guard and pineapple finial, dolphin hammer, side lock engraved C. ALLPORT, push-on safety, fully walnut stocked with rounded chequered butt, silver coloured metal vacant escutcheon, horn terminal and swivel ramrod, 13.5 inches overall. Contained in a period mahogany case with foliate engraved name plate, the hinged lid enclosing lined green baize interior with some accessories including copper and brass 3-stage powder flask and turn screw.

a fine pair of 16-bore percussion duelling pistols by Nixon of Newark, circa 1850, 9.25 inch octagonal browned barrel with damascus twist figuring engraved NIXON. GUN MAKER, NEWARK case hardened foliate scrolls to the breech and tang, dolphin hammer, the side lock engraved NIXON, NEWARK with push-on safety, trigger guard and pineapple finial, figured half walnut stock with chequered rounded butt, vacant silver coloured metal escutcheon, steel tipped ebony ramrod, 15.75 inches overall. Contained in a period brass bound mahogany case, with recessed carrying handle, the hinged lid enclosing fitted compartments lined with green baize, containing some accessories including bright steel oil bottle and Dixon pistol flask.

a group of four pistols by Staudenmayer, London, circa 1810 comprising; (i) A pair of 18-bore flintlock holster pistols, 9.75 inch sighted barrel engraved STAUDENMAYER, LONDON to the breech, foliate engraved tang, trigger guard and pineapple finial, flintlock hammer, hull shaped pan and frizzen, the side lock engraved STAUDENMAYER, LONDON, with push-on safety, fully walnut stocked with rounded chequered butt, with ramrod, each numbered 1326 to underside of butt, 16 inches overall. (ii) A pair of flintlock, over and under, tap action pocket pistols, 2.5 inch turn-off barrels, slotted for barrel key, the top barrel numbered 1, (the other pistols barrels numbered 2 & 3), proof and view marks on the casing engraved STAUDENMAYER the reverse LONDON within military trophies, push-on safety, concealed trigger and plain walnut slab butt, 6 inches overall. Contained a mahogany case, the hinged lid bearing paper label for J. Blissett Gunmaker, lined with green baize, with some accessories including Sykes copper and brass pistol flask, and another G&J. W.H. samuel Henry Staudenmayer former apprentice of John Manton (Neal3), Gunmaker, 35 Jermyn Street., 1799 (RA 29093): 35 Cockspur Street 1802-14; 35 Cockspur Street 1814-25. A 19th Century Stourbridge clear crystal flask of compressed ovoid form set with a hollow blown compressed ovoid stopper, the body engraved with a hunting scene of a rider on horse back with hounds in pursuit of a fox to a landscape setting, to the reverse a dedicated monogram and to the stopper a winged insect, measures 19cm long.
