Rare complete snuff set; China, Qing dynasty, mid-19th century.Silver with enamels. In its case.Measurements: 4.5 cm diameter of the plate; 5 cm of the funnel; 5.5 cm of the jar; 16 cm of the spoon; 4 x 20 x 12 cm (case). This is a very rare lot because it is complete; not even the best collections of this type of object in the world have complete snuff sets (the Bloacha couple's collection, the Hong Kong Museum or the National Museum of Taipei). It consists of a mixing bowl, spoon, funnel and flask. The snuff was purchased by the pound, in small boxes, and had to be mixed little by little in a small dish with other fragrances, as is done with tobacco (cognac aroma, etc.). The spoon was used for stirring and also for pouring the mixed snuff into the funnel, which was very narrow like the spout of the flask, and was used to prevent the snuff from getting wet. The bottle is decorated with the figure of a qilin, a Chinese mythical beast with positive connotations.
