Limoges 19th Century Superb Quality Enamel And Silver Scent Flask Wonderful cylindrical perfume bottle complete with original silver gilt in cork stopper, the hinged lid and interior in silver gilt. The outer in black enamel with hand painted white and gilt curlicue enamels, the central oval vignette depicting a classical maiden in Arcadian landscape, length 3 1/2 inches. Overall good antique condition - very minor chip to black enamel at base (approx 2mm)

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A superb ancient Roman sprinkler flask comprised of translucent lemon yellow glass with a piriform body adorned by pinched spikes, a tubular neck, and a splayed and tooled everted rim, and dimpled bottom. Sprinkler vases were used to sprinkle precious scented rose water or perfumes. Beyond its graceful form, brilliant color, and expert technique, time has also contributed to the aesthetic of this vessel, as a remarkable amount of fiery rainbow iridescence in hues of violet, sapphire, aqua, spring green, ice blue, pink, lavender and more delight the eye! Near East, Islamic, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A beautiful flask of a tall stature, mold-formed from near-opaque glass of a pale yellow-green hue. The spherical body is supported by an applied flared foot surrounding a rough pontil scar, has a rounded shoulder which tapers sharply to form the cylindrical neck, and a funnel mouth with an in-folded rim and a lightly-carinated bulge just below. A register of pattern-molded circles with interior dots course around the shoulder, and a small indentation below the decorations suggests the vessel was created via the post technique. Size: 4.875" W x 11.125" H (12.4 cm x 28.3 cm).Published in "Glasses of Antiquity." Fortuna Fine Arts, Ltd., New York, 2002, fig. 135. Ancient Near East, Islamic, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A fabulous flask of a substantial size, formed in a mold from semi-translucent, pale blue glass. The vessel is defined by a concave base, an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, and a cylindrical neck that gradually expands to a smooth rim. The lower body is shallowly dimpled in a regular pattern. Thin red glass trails create over a dozen rings which coil around the upper neck. Size: 1.95" W x 5.4" H (5 cm x 13.7 cm) Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection Condition: Base is repaired from several pieces with a protective thin plastic coating over the base. This repair is well done and difficult to see. Completely translucent with a few ancient deposits along the applied glass on the neck. No pontil mark as the vessel was mold made rather than free blown.
