A Roman earth-ware terracotta flask, with a relief portrait of Janus - In ancient Roman religion and myth, Janu is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces since he looks to the future and to the past - border section with a punched circular border contained within two small loop handles, and a small spout. H: 3 4/5 in (9.7cm). Intact; 150 x 110 mm; 5.9055x4.3307 in; 360g; Provenance: Property of a professional London art expert; obtained from an old British collection formed in the 1970s.
