A selection of three very early Roman glassware objects excavated in Cyprus comprising a Bowl, a candlestick style Vessel and a club-shaped Flask, together with one other terracotta Lamp CONDITION REPORT: This has been in a genuine private collection for many years, the house now being dispersed for downsizing after a death in the family, military people and travelled extensively around the world and most of the collection was formed in the early part of the 20th Century.
AN UNUSUAL LATE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE SILVER METAL SPIRIT FLASK WITH SCREW TOP, the flattened sides decorated with a dragon and with a cartouche inscribed with the characters 'Tianjin Yuanmingyuan Beijing', reputed to have been made on the instructions of a local British Officer from silver looted from the Summer Palace after its sacking in 1860, 2.7in wide at widest point & 4.75in high.
1st century AD. A pale blue iridescent glass flask with bell-shaped body, dimple base, tapering neck, flared and rolled rim. Cf. Whitehouse, D. Roman Glass in the Corning Museum of Glass, vol.1, New York, 1997, item 247. 73 grams, 20.5cm (8"). UK art market, acquired prior to 2000. Fine condition, some surface accretion.
1st-3rd century AD. A globular terracotta flask with partial red slip surface, discoid base, slender neck with everted rim, bifid strap handle to the rear. 300 grams, 16cm (6 1/4"). Property of an Essex gentleman; acquired from Ancient Art, London, UK, in 2011. [No Reserve] Fine condition, surface abraded.
2nd-4th century AD. A mixed glass group comprising: a piriform jar with rounded base; a squat jar with knop to the base, rolled rim; a flask with ribbed body, rolled rim. 65 grams total, 53-70mm (2 1/4 - 2 3/4"). Property of an East Anglia gentleman; acquired on the London art market. [3, No Reserve] Fine condition.
