Bertil Vallien - Boda - A post war boxed glass condiment set, comprising sugar, salt and pepper, the clear glass bodies all of teardrop form with cork stoppers, all retaining original labels, together with a Lindshammar flask designed by Gosta Sigvard, with textured body and cork stopper with ring pull, retains label. A percussion pistol by Nock, Londoncirca 1830with turn-off barrel, boxlock, action inscribed within ovals to each side, flat-sided walnut butt, 17cm long, together with an Italian brass powder flask decorated with a dog and game birds, 18cm long(2)Sold as an exempt item under Section 58 (2) of the 1968 Firearms Act, to be held as a curiosity or ornament.Condition report: Holds at half and full cock and releases nicely with the trigger. There is some shrinkage to the wooden grip and there is now a slight gap between the grip and the frame, a sliver like section of grip is missing and a couple of small knocks elsewhere to the grip. There are several score marks visible to the lockplate, some further minor marks and general discolouration to barrel and some dents to the trigger guard.
Pair: Private A. H. Lindsay, King’s (Liverpool Regiment), who was killed in action on the Western Front on 5 January 1918 British War and Victory Medals (235310 Pte. A. H. Lindsay. L’pool R.); Memorial Plaque (Alexander Hugh Lindsay) in card envelope; together with the recipient’s card identity disk ‘Lindsay 235310 Pres King’, extremely fine (3) £120-£160 --- Provenance: Acquired by the vendor directly from the recipient’s family. Alexander Hugh Lindsay was born in Manchester and attested there for the Yorkshire Regiment in September 1916, subsequently transferring to the King’s Liverpool Regiment. He served with the 6th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 5 October 1918. He is buried in Anneux British Cemetery, France. Sold with a portrait photograph of the recipient, and another of him in a newspaper cutting; three postcards written to the recipient from his wife, and housed in a leather wallet; a small flask; a photograph of the recipient’s original grave; and other ephemera.
Five pieces of 19th century Chinese blue and white porcelain, including a pair of meiping vases painted in underglaze blue with quatrefoil panels containing figures on grounds of lotus scrolls, Kangxi reign marks, a moon flask with ruyi handles decorated with prunus blossom, a baluster vase painted with birds and flowers and a double gourd vase decorated with two dragons and peonies and a moon flask 26cm (5). Pair of vases fritted and one with slight staining. Moon flask with a section of the foot re glued. No other damage and free from professional repair.
