George Jones Crescent Ware Pair of 'Pompeian' Vases, of Oriental flask shape, the bulbous bodies decorated with rows of stylised yellow ox-eye daisy flowers and leaves against a mustard yellow ground, with a further single band of the flowers just below the tapering, fluted neck, which terminates with a small two tone yellow 'cup' with applied quatrefoils and a green rim; each 10.5 inches high; printed GJ monogram and crescent mark plus 'Pompeian' (tiny paint losses to top of necks, 1 vase with surface chip to underside edge, hardly visible to exterior)

An extremely fine pair of cased 30 bore flintlock duelling pistols by Westley Richards c 1820, 14” overall, sighted browned octagonal damascus barrel 9½”, with 2 platinum lines at breeches, platinum touch holes and engraved “Westley Richards” in Old English script; the signed bolted locks having rainproof pans and rollers on frizzen springs, and engraved with scrolling foliage including on the frizzens; wlnaut halfstocks with rounded chequered butts, horn fore end caps and German silver barrel wedge plates and vacant rectangular escutcheons; blued steel trigger guards engraved with dog tooth borders and scrolls terminating in rampant heads, and enclosing single set trigger; with brass mounted ramrods having concealed worms. Very Good Working Order and Pristine Condition beneath the congealed oil which has obviously preserved them; contained in their original green baize lined fitted mahogany case, lid with circular brass escutcheons and folding circular brass handle, with maker’s trade label and containing brass mounted copper 3 way flask, brass mounted ebony loading/cleaning rod with interchangeable and spare ebony ramrod with removable end, steel pincer mould (worn with pitting), and wad punch. An extremely fine pair of officer’s cased 16 bore percussion belt pistols by Westley Richards, 13” overall, the browned twist barrels 8” with platinum lined shell engraved breeches, engraved on the top flats “Westley Richards, 170 New Bond St, London”; with signed and scroll engraved colour hardened bolted locks; walnut fullstock with rounded chequered butts, oval silver (?) barrel wedge plates, and rectangular escutcheon engraved with family crest and the initials “MP”; with engraved blued steel mounts, 4” steel belt hooks, and swivel ramrods. Very Good Working Order and near Pristine Condition beneath the congealed oil which has obviously preserved them; contained in their original green baize lined fitted mahogany case, with folding brass handle in the lid, maker’s trade label and containing copper flask by Sykes (slightly dented), steel pincer mould by William Davies, brass mounted ebony loading/cleaning rod, nipple key with pricker, turnscrew, leather pouch containing spare nipples, linen bag with remains of paper label and containing lead balls, quantity of loose patches, bone handled cleaning brush, and key to case. A good clean set (lid of case slightly split). Plate 35 Note: A letter accompanying the lot, from the Heraldry Society, suggests that the arms are those of the Portal family and the initials are those of Melville Portal of Laverstoke, Hants (1819-1904)
A 19th century N W Frontier tribesman’s leather waistbelt, with 2 stud decorated pouches for 6 charges each, with 7 (of 12) bamboo holders and another of decorated bone, a small pouch for flints, a leather water flask, and an iron flint knapping tool, of pickaxe form. GC for age (tip of belt broken off and missing)
A good cased 5 shot 54 bore Beaumont Adams double action percussion revolver, by Robert Adams, 11” overall, barrel 5¾” engraved on the top strap “Robert Adams, London”, London proved; frame engraved “B.6049/ Adams’ Patent. No. 21664. R”, the cylinder “21664R” with deeply chequered walnut butt and plain steel buttcap. Very Good Working Order and near Very Good Condition, retaining approximately 85% of mirror blued finish; in its original green baize lined fitted oak case with brass escutcheon in the lid, with maker’s trade label and containing bag shaped copper flask by Dixon (slightly dented), R Adams Registered double cavity bronze bullet mould, brass mounted cleaning rod, nipple key with pricker (key end worn), pewter oil bottle, soft leather bag for percussion caps with worn paper label, and wad punch. Good Condition (slight moth to lining). Plate 37
A 5 shot 80 bore 3rd Model Tranter self cocking double trigger percussion revolver, 9” overall, barrel 4½” engraved on the top strap E. Cogswell. 224 Strand London”, London proved; with scroll engraved frame and breech, fame also engraved “No 12,120T” with chequered walnut butt. Good Working Order and Condition (the barrel lightly worn and refinished with minor flaws near the muzzle); in a modern close fitted mahogany case with “Tranter’s Patent” double cavity 80 bore bronze bullet mould (hammered and bruised), and a small “bush” embossed brass powder flask.
