An antique pewter virgin "flask", possibly Byzantine, moulded to each side with a bust of a bare breasted lady and with wriggle work decoration, a label to the base reads "Pewter virgin used as baptismal flask in a Greek Orthodox church (perhaps in a Byzantine church) in Turkey - fragments of documents in Greek found in the flask which is certainly of Middle or Far Eastern origin, the flask was bought in Constantinople in 1923 or 24 shortly after the expulsion of the Greeks from most of Turkey", height 23cm, damage.
